OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—MARCH 15, 2019— Gravati had never raced at Remington Park before Friday night, and the 4-year-old gelding had never raced at 330 yards, but he may have found a winning combination as he came home a winner in the featured $28,400 allowance in race seven at 6-1 odds.

Jockey Rodrigo Vallejo booted this Oklahoma-bred son of Valiant Hero out of the gate first and never was headed in winning by a half-length over runner-up Rmiss Fireball in a time of 16.895 seconds on a fast track for a speed index of 87. Gravati’s dam is a Mr Eye Opener mare The Way You Want Me.

Trainer John Buchanan conditions this horse for owner and breeder Bobby Cox of Fort Worth, Texas. It was Gravati’s second win from only eight starts lifetime. He paid $14.60, $8.60 and $3.80 to win, place and show. Cox pocketed the winner’s share of $16,088 to increase Gravati’s lifetime earnings to $24,037. His record now stands at 8 starts, two wins, one second-place finish and one third-place effort.

Rmiss Fireball went off at 10-1 odds, cruised out of the gate second and stayed there, another head in front of the favorite in third. The top two combined for a $2 exacta payoff of $136.80. The favorite, T Velocity, who won the $100,000 Mr Jess Perry Derby at Ruidoso Downs last year, finished third at 9-5 odds. Crying Eagle, at 29-1, ran fourth and the 10-cent superfecta was worth $568.39.

Big Payoffs Continue

There were two more exotic wager payouts over $1,000 on Friday night, putting the total number for the meet at 25. Remington is averaging five wagers a night that have been worth four figures or more. The two big pops Friday came in the ninth and 10th races. Bettors who correctly selected the 2-7-7 combination in the Pick 3 that started in the seventh race and ended in the ninth were rewarded with a $1,397.50 return. The winners of those three races were Gravati (6-1), Cartel Bug (5-2) and Jess Send Money (33-1).

The other boxcar score was the Pick 3 consisting of races eight, nine and 10 and a combination of 7-7-7. The winners in that combo were Cartel Bug (5-2), Jess Send Money (33-1) and Dashin Jenny (11-1) and backers received $1,678.80.

Jockey Doubles

A trio of jockeys made it to the winner’s circle Friday night twice – Jimmy Brooks, Agustin Silva and Juan Pulido. One trainer made two trips – Eddie Willis.

Racing continues Saturday, March 16 with 12 races beginning at 6pm, led by the $50,000 SLM Big Daddy Stakes as the feature. Sunday racing on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, starts at 1:30pm.
