Two-Time All American Futurity Winning Jockey Esgar Ramirez Rides Fastest Training Race Winner

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—FEBRUARY 13, 2019—Jockey Esgar Ramirez, twice a winner of the All American Futurity, rode the winner of the fastest of nine training races at Remington Park on Wednesday.

He booted home Sizzling Fajita to a win in the final schooling race of the day, stopping the timer for 250 yards in :13.701 seconds, racing into a stiff 25 mph headwind. All the training race horses on this second training race day prior to the 2019 Quarter Horse season battled that headwind.

Ramirez was up for trainer Clint Crawford and owner Brenda Reiswig. Sizzling Fajita, a 2-year-old bay Quarter Horse daughter of last year's leading sire of money earners Apollitical Jess, out of the Corona Cartel mare Anita Fajita, finished three-quarters of a length in front and received a speed index of 71 for her win.

Anitas Fajita's only foal to race, Dashing Fajita, was third in the Mystic Lake Northlands Juvenile Stakes at Canterbury Park last year. The second dam is the multiple graded producing First Down Dash mare Sizzling Corona, a sister to AQHA Racing champion Corona Kool and half-sister AQHA Racing champion Corona Chick.

It was the second win of the day for Crawford, who also took the first training race of the day with 2-year-old Quarter Horse colt Left Town, who finished well under a hand ride. He is owned by Renee Wilson and Preston Cloud.

A $7,500 Los Alamitos Equine Sale graduate, Left Town is by multiple grade 1 sire Kiddy Up from the Pritzi Dash mare Kingman Sis, a half-sister to Los Alamitos Million Futurity(G1) winner Kingman Kid. The bay colt is co-owned by Renee Wilson and Preston Cloud.

Ramirez won the All-American Futurity in 2016 aboard Imperial Eagle at Ruidoso Downs in New Mexico, the biggest race of the year for Quarter Horse 2-year-olds, and in 2010 in the saddle of Mr Piloto.

Both of those years, Ramirez was the leading jockey in the country in money earned. In his career, Ramirez has had 10,116 starts, according to Equibase statistics, with 1,548 wins; 1,378 seconds, and 1,286 thirds and his horses have earned $37,751,828.

Kissin Kash, a $20,000 Heritage Place Yearling Sale graduate by first-crop sire Champion Kiss My Hocks, lost his footing at the start but recovered to rally for the lead in Race 5, easily winning by half-a-length.

He clocked the fourth fastest time of :13.85 seconds for owner Georgina Chavira. Luz Chavira conditions the bay colt who is a first foal for the winning Pyc Paint Your Wagon mare Pyc Diamond. She is a half-sister to multiple stakes placed Azoom Diamond and Krashin Cash.

Trainer Guillermo Valdivia joined Crawford as the only trainer with multiple winners on Wednesday, also saddling two.

Other winners Wednesday included BV Some Gave All (Eddie Lee Willis, trainer), Babe Wired (Matt Whitekiller), No Torious (James B. Padgett II), Kissin Kash (Luz Chavira), Gota Lota Secrets (Todd Lacey), Clean Brew (Guillermo Valdivia) and Candy Tales (Manuel Campos).

First-crop sires Wagon Tales and Bv Travelin Soldier each got a winner on Wednesday's card. Other sires with winners today were American Runaway, Corona Cartel, Crm Livewire and Lota Pyc.
