PHOENIX, AZ—DECEMBER 16, 2018—Shenanigans Regard got his first career win Sunday after drawing off by one-length over Jay Collins in the $8,600 Maiden Stakes (not black type) at Turf Paradise.

Ridden by jockey Emilio Tapia, Shenanigans Regard completed the 300 yards in a quick :15.395 clocking into an 11 mph crosswind to earn a 99 speed index. The $5,065 winners' purse boosted the Chicks Regard 4-year-olds' earnings to $20,340.

Trainer Pedro Soto saddled the brown gelding for owner Juan Angel Ruiz. Killer Humberto Lopez Gaxiola bred Shenanigans Regard in New Mexico from the First Down Dash mare Sin Til Late.

Runner-up Jay Collins chased under jockey Carlos Marquez, but had to settle for a second-place payday worth $1,634. Juan Figueroa conditions the Heza Motor Scooter 3-year-old for owner Pedro Medina. Jay Collins was bred in California by Thomas Ramos from the Apollo (TB) mare My Donna Doll.

Half-a-length back in third was first-time starter Tubac Royale. The Arizona-bred son of Fair For Dancing from the Throwin A Fit mare Spectacular Fit races for owner Jessica Pinedo and is trained by Phil Pinedo. Bred by Eddie Megariz, Tubac Royale earned the $817. Rick Oliver was aboard.
