PHOENIX, AZ—DECEMBER 9, 2018—Under jockey Mark Jasso, First Lady Perry was pressed by Jessa Cat but the 2-year-old filly held on to win the $48,735 AQRA-Turf Paradise Open QH Futurity by a neck Sunday afternoon at Turf Paradise Race Course. Ur My Favorite finished a neck back in a blanket finish to take third.
A royally bred daughter of leading sire Mr Jess Perry, First Lady Perry completed the 400 yards in :19.989 seconds, a 91 speed index over a fast racing surface, to pocket the winners' share of the purse worth $24,368.
Trainer John Allred saddled the $35,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale graduate for owner Scott McDaniel. After breaking her maiden at Los Alamitos Race Course in August, the bay filly shipped to Turf Paradise after failing to qualify for the Golden State Million Futurity. She has won two straight races to compile a (7) 3-2-0 record and banke $34,224 this season.
Jessa Cat, a lightly race daughter from the first crop to race by the graded stakes winning Storm Cat (TB) son, Stray Cat came out at the start but recovered gamely under jockey Martin Osuna to finish second for owner-trainer Jose Botello.
William O. Dale bred the sorrel filly in Missouri from the Mr Jess Perry mare Jessa Runner. Still a maiden from only three starts she has earned $10,335.
Also a maiden, Ur My Favorite earned $4,874 for her third-place finish after leading early in the racve. Trainer Armando Castellanos saddled the Favorite Cartel filly in only her fourth career start for owner Valerie Melissa Velazquez.
Jaime Gomez bred the brown filly in California from the Jazzing Hi mare Prima Ld. She has lit the board in three of her four starts this season. Emilio Tapia had the riding call.
Ahs Blue Boy, Showmethedoe, Im Rocket Man and Sassy Krystal completed the field. Jess Echeson and fastest qualifier One Famous Icon were both scratched.
