GRAND PRAIRIE, TX—NOVEMBER 9, 2018—Jess Leaving Fast (2-1) proved he was the best in Saturday's $53,403 Texas Classic Juvenile when he defeated Dak, as the posttime favorite, by three-quarters at Lone Star Park.

The son of leading sire Heza Fast Dash was the 11th fastest qualifier for the $1,014,657 Texas Classic Futurity in the October 20th trials, getting knocked to the Juvenile in the last trial of the night.

Jess Leaving Fast drifted out some tonight under jockey J.R. Ramirez while completing the 400 yards in :19.884 seconds, a 93 speed index, into a 5 mph headwind.

"He's a solid two year old," Ramirez said following the win. "They asked if I wanted to ride him and I don't know why the other rider pulled off of him but he had a good chance to win."

The $16,000 Heritage Place Yearling Sale graduate races for owner Double H Racing Investment LLC and is trained by Santiago Riojas, Jr.

"It was a heartbreaker that we didn't qualify for the million, but he's come back and run a good race," trainer Riojas said.

Bred in Texas by Bob and Jerry Gaston, from the Mr Jess Perry mare Jessa Leaving You, the bay colt has compiled a (6) 3-3-0 record and used the $23,756 Juvenile winners' purse to boost his earnings total to nearly $75,000. Two races back he won the Retama Juvenile Challenge.

His connections also indicated if the horse pulls up well he could be supplemented to the Evangeline Downs Futurity next month.

TQHA Sale Futurity(RG3) winner Dak was bumped and forced out at the start but finished gamely under jockey Francisco Calderon to get second. Leon Bard trains the son of Dominyun for owner Blue Star Racing. Bred by Bullard Farms, from the Fishers Dash mare Fleet Elis, Dak earned $16,021 to bring his lifetime mark to $232,265.

Wootan Racing's Oklahoma homebred Senator Ryno finished a neck back to earn $8,010 for third. Champion jockey G.R. Carter, Jr. had the riding call for trainer Michael Joiner. The lightly-raced son of multiple stakes sire Louisiana Senator was making only fifth career start after spending the summer in Ruidoso. Out of the Lil Bit Cuervo mare Eyesa Lil Cuervo, Senator Ryno broke his maiden in the October 20th trials and earned $14,030 this season.

Sara Jess Fine V, Texaslittlebro, The Fish Cartel, All Sophia Wanted, Slyng Schott, Five Bar Stoli and The Grand Legend completed the field.
