GRAND PRAIRIE, TX—SEPTEMBER 21, 2018—Ruidoso Derby(G1) runner-up Cartel Cupid bounced from an off-the-board performance in the All American Derby trials last month to post the top qualifying time for the Dash For Cash Derby(G2) Friday night at Lone Star Park.
Fifty sophomores battled the elements over a sloppy (sealed) racecourse in five trial races that went from a 10 mph tailwind in the opening trial to a 16 mph tailwind in trial three and a 10 mph crosswind in the last two trials.
The 10 fastest qualifiers will faceoff on Saturday, October 6th to vie for the winners' share of the $163,200 purse.
All American Futurity(G1) winning trainer G. Blane Wood saddled the Texas homebred for owner-breeders Randy and Sandy Colemen.
The son of leading sire Corona Cartel, from the Granite Lake mare Lakeview Dreams, has compiled a (9) 5-1-0 record and banked more than $187,000. The G1-placed gelding was also finalist in the Texas Classic Futurity(G1) at Lone Star last fall.
Ron Lyles bred the winner of the 2018 M-r Jess Perry Stakes at Ruidoso Downs in Oklahoma from the Wave Carver mare Wave Over Phoebe. He has earned $48,313.
A blanket-finish in the final trial pulled four horses into the October 6th final including the 3rd, 4th and 5th fastest qualifiers Lions Express, Stone Cold Leader and Ivory Noche.
Lions Express, under jockey Luis Vivanco, broke out at the start but got up at the wire in :21.515 seconds, a 97-speed index for the victory.

Multiple stakes winner Sr Shambles, under jockey Jesse Levario, posted the biggest winning margin when took the third trial by one-length in :21.583 seconds, a 96-speed index.
Bumped hard mid race, the son of champion sire Desirio raced to the 6th fastest time under a torrential downpour with a 16 mph tailwind.
Josue Ponce conditions the earner of nearly $155,000 for owner Reuben Garcia Montemayor. Jovetta Meredith bred the 2018 Old South Derby winner in Oklahoma from the Azoom mare Parisz.

Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie, a Class I racetrack operated by Texas Partners LSP and Global Gaming LSP. The track’s 16-day 2018 Quarter Horse Season opens Friday, September 21, and concludes on Saturday, November 10.
