SELMA, TX—JULY 13, 2018—Coronas On The Coast, a $3,500 repurchase at the 2017 TQHA Yearling Sale, scored his third win in four starts Friday night when he posted the fastest qualifying time, from 101 Texas-bred yearling sale graduates, in the restricted Grade 3 TQHA Sale Futurity at Retama Park.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to the San Antonio area racetrack on Saturday, July 28th to vie for the winner's share of the $479,196 purse going 350 yards.

Ridden by jockey Everardo Rodriguez, Coronas On The Coast drove to a one-length win the seventh trial to record the top mark of :17.799 seconds, a 96 speed index into a 15 mph headwind. Coming off an Allowance victory at Delta Downs June 14th, Coronas On The Coast has compiled a (4) 3-0-1 record and banked $14,854 this season.

Trainer Martin Rodriguez saddled the son of Special Royal Corona in his first futurity trial of the season for owner A and E Stables. Omar Mireles bred the sorrel gelding from the Yawls Rabbit mare Coasting Rabbit.

The royally bred Jess Master Angel broke his maiden in trial 3 for trainer Janessa Muniz. Ridden by jockey Jose Beltran, Jess Master Angel dueled early but drove to a one-length victory in the second fastest qualifying time of :17.865 seconds, a 94 speed index into a 9 mph headwind.

Cesar Rosales is the owner-breeder of the son of first crop sire Dash Master Jess from the multiple stakes winning Jet Black Patriot mare Mi Angela, a half-sister to leading sire Pyc Paint Your Wagon. Jess Master Angel qualified to the Grade 2 $425,179 Sam Houston Futurity in his first career start at Sam Houston Race Park last April. He has earned $18,732 this season.

Trainer Leon Bard saddled the first of three TQHA Sale Futurity qualifiers in trial 5 when Lj Moonrise, under jockey Francisco Calderon, was a 1-¼ length winner getting the third fastest clocking of :17.869 seconds, a 94 speed index into an 8 mph headwind.

Owner P and J Racing Ltd. paid $22,000 for the daughter of champion sire Separatist out of the One Famous Eagle mare Risen Eagle. It was the second win in two starts for the Elizabeth Vivanco Texas-bred.

Bard and Calderon also teamed to qualify Woulda, a Tempting Dash colt who finished second to fastest qualifier Coronas On The Coast, to scoring the 6th fastest time of :17.957 seconds, a 91 speed index. Woulda was a $32,000 TQHA Yearling repurchase for owner/breeder P and J Racing Ltd.

First-crop sire Dash Master Jess was the only sire getting more than one finalist into this year's futurity final. Hot Beer, trained by Juan Diaz, Jr. tied with Dak, the third Leon Bard qualifier by multiple stakes sire Dominyun, for the 10th fastest time of :18.007 seconds.
