Always Right Breaks Maiden in All Canadian Futurity at Lethbridge

LETHBRIDGE, AB—JUNE 17, 2018—Experience paid off for Always Right in the $7,012(US) All Canadian Futurity (not black type); the 2-year-old won the feature race at Lethbridge as the only horse in the field with a previous career start.

Always Right had started twice in maiden races at Los Alamitos before shipping up to Alberta. She broke her maiden in the victory with a time of 15.958 in 300 yards and earned an 85 speed index.

Always Right ($6.70) was bred in California by Ed Allred. The Stel Corona filly is out of the Hawkish mare Hard Lining and is a full sister to multiple stakes placed Unchangeable, who was second behind Five Bar Cartel in the 2013 Ed Burke Million Futurity (G1) at Los Al.

She is trained by William Leech for owner Charles Stojan. Ricardo Moreno had the call in Sunday’s stakes race to earn $3,220(US).

Heza Southern Cartel led briefly but was caught by Always Right, though the duo cleared the rest of the field by nearly two lengths.

Heza Southern Cartel was ridden by Martin Ortiz and is trained by Tom Kenway. He was bred in Oklahoma by Flag Ranch, LLC, by Carters Cartel and out of the Valiant Hero mare SS Southern Lady. The colt is owned by Garry Nielson and James Dunn.

Leading the rest of the pack was Ifarm and jockey Jose Rocha. Ifarm is trained by Buckey Stockwell, who also co-owns the Coronado Cartel gelding with Beverly Stockwell.

Ifarm was bred in Oregon by Donald and Peggy Boyle, out of Avery Hope, by Mr Eye Opener.

Completing the field were Hortons Kid Dynamite, Singles Cruise, Phenomabomb and Light of Hope.
