Js History Lesson Wins Laico Bird Stakes With Late Rally

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—APRIL 21, 2018—JS History Lesson put forth a serious rally over the final half of the $65,500 Laico Bird Stakes on Saturday at Remington Park, a race for 2-year-old Oklahoma-breds. He found the line while the room on the outside became cramped thanks to the early leader drastically drifting out.

Owned by James Sills of Cedar Hills, Texas and trained by Eddie Willis, JS History Lesson was ridden to victory by Jimmy Brooks.

As the field made their way over the 330 yards, on a sloppy track, it appeared that runaway leader Apollitical Pence was going on to victory. However, he began to quickly drift far to his outside, losing ground and managing to cause interference to one rival.

Apollitical Pence made solid contact with Ivory By Choice, who may have touched JS History Lesson. Despite the activity, JS History Lesson powered home first. While Apollitical Pence crossed the finish-line second, he was disqualified from the runner-up spot because of his actions on third-place runner Ivory By Choice who was elevated to second. Apollitical Pence was punished and moved to third.

JS History Lesson crossed the finish in :16.779, a nose to the good, at odds of 10-1 in the betting. JS History Lesson paid $23.20 to win, $9.40 to place and $6.80 to show. Ivory By Choice paid $6.80 to place and $4 to show. Apollitical Pence paid $4.20 to show. Reggies Bailbond was the beaten favorite at 8-5 odds, finishing fourth.

JS History Lesson was bred in Oklahoma by his owner and is a gelding by FDD Dynasty from the Corona Cartel mare Tel A Story. The Laico Bird Stakes is his second win from three starts this season, netting $36,900. JS History Lesson has now earned a total of $52,858.

Runner-up Ivory By Choice races for owner/breeder Brenda Reiswig and trainer Clinton Crawford. Champion jockey G.R. Carter, Jr. piloted the son of multiple stakes sire Ivory James from the A Regal Choice mare Her Sweet Choice.

Coming off an impressive maiden victory in his first start March 9, Ivory By Choice earned $12,300 for the effort to double his earnings total to $25,330.

Dunn Ranch's Apollitical Pence was also making his second start after breaking his maiden at Remington Park April 5. Trey Wood conditions the Apollitical Jess gelding from the Tres Seis mare Send City. Co-bred by Dunn and Womack Cavender Farms, Apollitical Pence earned $6,765 following his disqualification.

The remaining finishers were: CR Smoke, Shez A Cartel Chick, Peves IBA Racy Gracy, Scary Spice and Igotta Go Gotta Go.
