OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—APRIL 21, 2018—Lynnder 16 remained undefeated in her young career as she outdueled Jess Let It B to prevail in Saturday’s $864,500 Remington Park Futurity by a head.

Owned by the Pierre, South Dakota partnership of Tom Maher and Dick Tobin, Lynnder 16 is trained by Jason Olmstead and was ridden to victory by Cristian Esqueda in the race for Oklahoma-breds.

The 2-year-old filly used a solid start to immediately compete with Jess Let It B who was also away sharply. The pair quickly separated from the remaining six foes and fought to the finish. Lynnder 16 ran straight and true, helping to get her to the line for victory in :16.374 over a sloppy track.

"It was perfect," Esqueda said. "She broke good. I was a little worried because last time (in her trial) she ducked out but this time she didn’t and she got the win."

Co-owner Maher was on hand to accept the trophy. He cited the filly’s talent and another ingredient needed to score rich races. "You’ve got to have the horse and you’ve got to have luck."

Tobin and Maher purchased the filly for $31,000 as a short-yearling in the 2017 Heritage Place Winter Mixed Sale in Oklahoma City.

Lynnder 16 qualified fastest on the second night of trials for the Remington Park Futurity on April 7. Despite that status, she was let go at 5-1 odds in the wagering and paid $12.40 to win, $8 to place and $5.60 to show.

The victory was the second in as many attempts this season for Lynnder 16, a daughter of leading sire Apollitical Jess from the Corona Cartel mare Tinys Corona Queen. She made $345,800 with her victory in the Remington Park Futurity. Lynnder 16 was bred in Oklahoma by James and Marilyn Helzer.

The win was the first for all of the connections in the Remington Park Futurity, a restricted event for eligible Oklahoma-breds since 2011.

Jess Let It Be, a Valiant Hero filly who entered the futurity off a third-place effort in the fastest trial April 6, picked up $146,965 for her second-place finish.

Trainer Eddie D. Willis saddled the homebred for owner/breeder Homer Hill. The sorrel filly is out of Jess B Mighty by Mr Jess Perry. Jimmy Dean Brooks had the riding call.

Jess Let It B returned $10.40 to place and $6.20 to show.

Temptingsecretfly rallied outside to gain third, a neck behind the winner, paying $5.40 to show. The 2-year-old races for owner/breeder Jose Guzman and trainer Amanda Tongay. Jose Flores was aboard the Tempting Dash gelding out of Belle Of The Cartel by Corona Cartel. Temptingsecretfly earned $95,095 for the effort.

Memories R Golden, the fastest qualifier from the first night of trials on April 6, was the beaten betting favorite at 8-5 odds, finishing fifth.

The complete order of finish in the Remington Park Futurity was Lynnder 16, Jess Let It Be, Temptingsecretfly, Jeaniologi, Memories R Golden, Tac N Dale, Watah Flash and Koolnfabulous. Charlies Fury and Vf Count Dracula were scratched.

Sunday, April 22 is Extreme Racing Day 2018 at Remington Park as the exotic animals compete throughout the afternoon, in between the regular American Quarter Horse, Paint and Appaloosa races. The exhibition races will begin the day at 1pm with the Express Ranch Clydesdales’ Match Race. The regular horse racing program starts at 1:30pm.
