Caseys Shadow 21 Sets Top Mark In Turf Paradise Maiden Stakes Trials

PHOENIX, AZ—JANUARY 14, 2018—Making his first start outside New Mexico, Caseys Shadow 21 broke his maiden and set the fastest qualifying time Sunday afternoon for the Turf Paradise Maiden Stakes (not black type) at Turf Paradise.

The 10 fastest qualifiers, from two trials of maiden 3-year-olds Quarter Horses at time of entry, will return to Turf Paradise on Sunday, January 28th to vie for a $5,000 added purse going 300 yards.

Under jockey Mark Jasso Caseys Shadow 21, a son of leading sire Pyc Paint Your Wagon, raced over fast track in :15.620 seconds to earn a 92-speed index and the top qualifying spot.

Racing for owners Angel Hernandez and Jorge Herrera, the Jose Badilla, Sr. trainee entered the trials off a layoff after finishing eighth in his All American Futurity trial at Ruidoso Downs last summer.

Bred by 21 Partnership, from the Royal Quick Dash mare Dream Mirage, Casey's Shadow 21 finished off-the-board in his four starts at 2, however he was a finalist in the West Texas Juvenile at Sunland Park.

In the second trial, Red Beer defeated Marshall Valentine by a neck but was disqualified for interference and placed fourth.

Conditioned by trainer Eloy Mendoza, Marshall Valentine races for owner/breeder Fernando Canales. The Arizona-bred son of The Bounty Man was a finalist in the both the AQRA Turf Paradise Futurity and the AQRA Southwest Futurity last season.

Ridden by jockey Chase Clark, Marshall Valentines time of :15.669 seconds, a 90-speed index, was the second fastest clocking. The brown gelding is out of the Panther Mountain mare Terri Tazer.
