Jw Who Dat Scores Upset In $15,000 Marathon Stakes At Harrah’s Louisiana Downs, Agouti's Run 1-2

BOSSIER CITY, LA—JANUARY 2, 2018—Perhaps motivated by the New Orleans Saints, who have clinched the lead in the NFC South, Jw Who Dat showed his supreme form in the $15,000 Marathon Stakes, today’s feature at Harrah’s Louisiana Downs.

Owned by Renato Contreras and trained by his son, Javier, the 6-year-old son of Agouti out of the Heza Fast Man mare Ew Comment was bred by J W Owens.

He was claimed for $3,500 in December at Evangeline Downs and in his next race, jockey Antonio Alberto made an astute observation that the Louisiana-bred might be suited to go around the hook.

"Antonio told me that the horse wanted to go further, so my dad and I said let’s get him ready for the 870-stakes at Louisiana Downs," said Contreras.

Breaking sharply from the far outside, post, Jw Who Dat surged to the lead and dueled with Big Boy Agouti before crossing the wire in a final time of :46.142, by a margin of one length.

"The outside post never worried us as he had never gone 870-yards," added Contreras. "We expected him to go to the lead and Antonio gave him a great ride."

Alberto is the current leading rider at the meet and had a good feeling about his mount based on his experience pulling up Jw Who Dat at Evangeline Downs.

"When you can’t pull a horse up after the wire and even the outrider couldn’t slow him down after the turn, you know he wants to go further. Javier and I are friends and have great communication. It was a special win, "stated Alberto.

Sent off at 11-1, Jw Who Dat rewarded his backers with a win payout of $25.60. This was the 23rd start and first stakes appearance for the bay gelding, who has now won five races and purses of $47,192. He will point to the $25,000 Magnolia Stakes, also at 870 yards, here on February 3, according to his conditioner.

Im Mighty Fast, owned by Triple M Racing Stables, LLC, was the post-time favorite, but broke poorly and rallied for third under Randy Edison.

Also, an Agouti gelding, runner-up Big Boy Agouti is out of the Silent King (TB) mare Mary Darlin (TB). Owned-and-trained by Lanny Keith, Big Boy Agouti was ridden by jockey Jose Rodriguez. Larazz Partnership is the breeder. The $3,000 runner-up payday boosted the chestnut gelding's earnings total to $24,410.

Jockey Randy Edison rode Im Mighty Fast into the show position. Jesus Garrido saddled the son of Mighty Corona for owner Triple C Racing Stables LLC. Bred by Cody Leblanc, from the Beat The Feet (TB) mare Sheza Fast Doll, Im Mighty Fast picked up $1,650 for the effort. He has earned more than $151,000.

Streak of Music was fourth, followed by Hez Toast and Agoutis Snowplow. Zoomins Jewel and Struttinmyjewelsoff were early scratches.
