Fj Blackdiamond Gets First Stakes Win In Wayne Brasher Memorial

PHOENIX, AZ—NOVEMBER 5, 2017—Fj Blackdiamond got a clean trip under jockey Rodolfo Arvizu to get up by a neck over Apollitical Boogie in the $18,500 Wayne Brasher Memorial Stakes Sunday afternoon at Turf Paradise. Justified was three-quarters back to take third.

Fj Blackdiamond completed the 300-yard task in :15.499 seconds to record a 95-speed index into a 9-mph headwind. It was the third career win for the 4-year-old son of The Bounty Man. The $11,355 winners' purse brings the brown gelding's earnings mark to $54,106.

Trainer Eloy Mendoza conditions the Arizona-bred gelding for owner Fernando Canales. Tracie Aker bred Fj Blackdiamond from the Heza Motor Scooter mare Sheza Princess Belle.

Mendoza also saddled runner-up Apollitical Boogie for owner-breeder Amado De La Riva. Emilio Tapia rode the Apollitical Jess gelding out of Shakin Ana Dashin by Late To Bed. Already a stakes winner, he earned $3,663 for the effort.

Trainer Chad Ferguson saddled third-place finisher Justified for owner Tim Haldaway. Chase Clark rode the Texas-bred son of Foose out of Special Wave by Special Leader. Lucas Racing and Vaughn Cook bred the multiple stakes winner of $94,730.

Domaine, Eagle Appeals and Jo Jo Hot Legs completed the field. Captain on Takeoff, Jess Ta Fied and Valiant Meltdown were scratched.
