HOBBS, NM—SEPTEMBER 17, 2017—Once Over, a stakes winning son of Walk Thru Fire, defeated Don Quixote by a neck in the $50,000 Grade 2 James Isaac Hobbs Stakes Sunday afternoon at Zia Park. Tf Im That Guy finished another neck back in a blanket finish to get third.

Ridden by jockey Raul Herrera, Once Over completed the 350 yards in :117.688 seconds, into a 12-mph crosswind, to earn a 92-speed index. It was the ninth career win for the 8-year-old and the $30,000 winners' purse boosted his lifetime bankroll past $260,000.

Trainer Jose Luis Marquez saddled the multiple graded stakes winner for owner Jaime Bujanda. Bred in California by Edward C. Allred, from the Check Him Out mare Look Her Over, Once Over has compiled a (30) 9-7-2 record.

Another Allred bred, Don Quixote races for owner/trainer Everardo Hernandez. The 6-year-old son of Stel Corona bobbled the break under jockey Jose Ortiz. just missing the win. Out of the Separatist mare Romanticist, Don Quixote picked up $11,000 to push his earnings to $148,049.

Last season's Hobbs America Derby(G3) winner Tf Im That Guy picked up $5,000 for his third-place finish. Martin Orona, Jr. saddled the First Down Dash colt for owner Victor Diaz. Vessels Stallion Farm, LLC and Tate Farms bred the 4-year-old in California from the Special Leader mare Tf Ms Special Perry. A graded stakes winner, Tf Im That Guy has banked more than $470,400.

Perrys Stamina, Apollitical Ok, Born To B Bad, Jm Splenda, Stormy Red Morning, Unfished Biz and Midnight Heat completed the field.
