Honor The Fast Man Prevails in Alberta Bred Derby

EDMONTON, AB – SEPTEMBER 16, 2017 Honor The Fast Man added a second stakes win to his career accomplishments with a victory in Saturday’s $23,702(US) Alberta Bred Derby at Northlands Park. The second-fastest qualifier to the final, Honor the Fast Man was the post-time favorite ($5.30) following the scratch of the fastest qualifier, Poutn On the Wagon.

Honor The Fast Man and jockey Martin Ortiz covered the 330-yard distance in :17.425. It was a triple play for Tom Kenway, the gelding’s trainer, breeder and owner. Kenway bred the son of Honor Tthe Perry in Alberta, out of the Heza Fast Man mare Buckle High, winner of the Manitoba Speed Horse Futurity at Assiniboia in 2003.

Honor the Fast Man has now earned $44,789 in 12 starts including five victories and four second-place finishes. He won the AQHA Derby Challenge Championship regional qualifier at Grande Prairie this summer and qualified for the Canada Cup Futurity (RG3) and the Alberta Bred Futurity (RG3) as a 2-year-old in 2016.

Dashin by All and Jose Rocha chased Honor the Fast Man throughout the race, ultimately finishing a neck behind the winner and nearly a length ahead of Bringit Like Benny in third.

Corey Rumsey trains the Bodacious Dash colt for owner Thomas Pick. Ernesto Guerra Jr. bred Dashin by All out of All Lena, by Jody O Toole. Saturday marked the seventh time Dashin by All has finished second in 17 starts, including several stakes placings, and he has three wins to date, with just over $25,000 in lifetime earnings.

In third place was Bringit Like Benny and jockey Juan Ramon Gonzalez. Janice Sather trains for Brenin Rycroft and Jenna Rycroft; Janice and Barry Sather bred the gelding in Alberta. Bringit Like Benny is a gelded son of Promised Class, out of Keep On Keepin On, by Dash to Chivato.

Completing the field were Ivory Lady League, North Pine Special, Cr Azoominshezquick and Make Er Out. Poutn On the Wagon was scratched.
