Eagle Cry Posts Fastest Time in Trials to Grade 3, $214,200 Dash For Cash Derby

Eagle Cry Posts Fastest Time in Trials to Grade 3, $214,200 Dash For Cash Derby

GRAND PRAIRIE, TX—SEPTEMBER 15, 2017—Ten qualifiers are set and will meet in the 20th Running of the Grade 3, $214,200 Dash for Cash Derby at 440 yards to be run on Saturday, September 30 at Lone Star Park.

It was the seventh race on the card (trial 5) when Eagle Cry posted a final time of :21.693 seconds for 440 yards on a fast track, the fastest time of the evening.

There was no doubt Eagle Cry came ready to perform tonight. With Jesse Levario in the saddle, the son of leading sire One Famous Eagle was well in front just a few jumps out of the gate. When he reached the wire, he was two-lengths in front of the field wile recording a 91-speed index into an 11-mph headwind.

Eagle Cry is owned by Irma and Giovanni Vargas of Grand Prairie and trained by Rolando Armanza. Second in the Adequan Retama Park Derby Challenge in his last start, the sorrel gelding is out Checknbac by Check Him Out. Jim Streelman and Bill Dale is the breeder.

Paint Me Pilot, a son of leading sire Pyc Paint Your Wagon from the multiple stakes producer Ms Pilot Point by Splash Bac, posted the second fastest time of :21.818 seconds.

Ridden by jockey Yordanis Amaro, the brown colt was bumped at the break but finished much the best to win the second trial by three-quarters over fifth fastest qualifier Koolnfamous.

Trainer Jorge Gonzalez saddled the Grade 1-placed colt for owner Double A Ranch, Inc. Second in the Rainbow Futurity(G1) and the Dash For Cash Futurity(G2) last season, Paint My Pilot has banked more than $240,000.

Grant Farms, LLC bred the half-brother to All American Futurity(G1) winner Mr Piloto in Louisiana.

Mia Kine, a daughter of multiple stakes sire Dominyun, led three finalists from the sixth trial when she defeated Ja Big Bad Gol by a neck. Also, trained by Almanza, Mia Kine races for Elite Oilfield Services.

Bred in Oklahoma by Vaughn and Jill Cook, Mia Kine entered the Dash For Cash Derby trials off a troubled off-the-board finish in the Speedhorse Derby on July 29.

Ridden by jockey Jesse Levario the sorrel filly clocked the 440 yards in a :21.915 seconds to post the third fastest time.

Adequan Ruidoso Derby Challenge runner-up Rock About It scored a neck win in the final trial (race 9) over fellow qualifier Immortal Saboteur to post the sixth fastest time of :21.988 seconds. Bennito Baca rode the Rock Solid Jess gelding for owner Rockin J Running Horses and trainer Tammy Kay Johnson.

Sarah Donaldson Rioux bred Rock About It in New Mexico from the Coronas Blackdiamond mare Not Sable Shes Rose.
