Lord Of War Sets Top Mark in G.C.F.A. 79 & Under Futurity Trials

FREDRICKSBURG, TX—JULY 16, 2017—Lord Of War broke his maiden on Sunday while setting the fastest qualifying time for the G.C.G.A. 79 & Under Speed Index Futurity at the Gillespie County Fairground.

The 10 fastest qualifiers, from 47 juveniles who had not run a 79 or higher speed index at nomination, will return to the Gillespie Fairgrounds on Sunday, August 13th to vie for the winners' share of a $44,000 purse going 330 yards.

Ridden by jockey Nestor Duran, Lord Of War bumped at the start before pulling off a half-length win in the opening trial to get the top qualifying time of :16.982 seconds, a 95-speed index with a 5-mph tailwind.

Trainer Eusevio Huitron saddled the first-time winner for owner Claudia Miranda. Myers Ranch & Racing LLC bred the Carters Cartel colt in Oklahoma from the First Down Dash mare Just Wild Enough.

Lg Mighty Moe, a Zz Cartel gelding out of Down Kate by Gol was a half-length winner in the second trial for/breeder L & G Racing to post the second fastest time of :17.010 seconds, a 94-speed index.

Lg Mighty Moe was the first of two finalists saddled by trainer Janessa Lee Muniz. Francisco Mendez rode the brown gelding.

Muniz also trains 7th fastest qualifier Cosmic Chick, a Cosmograph filly owned by Juan Amando Garza, Jr.

Cosmograph was the only sire with multiple qualifiers, also getting 5th fastest qualifier Cosmo Lela.
