FREDRICKSBRUG, TX—JULY 15, 2017—Herculan Task, a 3-year-old son of leading sire Corona Cartel, broke his maiden on Saturday to set the top qualifying time for the $7,500 G.C.F.A. 79 & Under Derby at the Gillespie County Fairground.
The 10 fastest qualifiers, from two trial races of sophomores who had not run a 79-speed index or higher at time of nomination, will return to the Gillespie County Fairground on Sunday, August 13th to vie for the winner' share of the purse going 330 yards.
Josue Huitron conditions the bay gelding, out of Charm Dance by First Down Dash, for owner Fabian Hernandez. Reliance Ranches, LLC is the breeder.
Also, breaking his maiden was Glens Dashing Snow, a one-length winner in the first trial for owner Margarito Espinoza. Also, trained by Huitron, the son of Heza Fast Dash recorded the second fastest time of :16.824 seconds, a 101-speed index.
Froylan Ramirez was aboard the Louisiana bred gelding for only his second career start. Glinden Leger bred the bay from the This Snow Is Royal mare Mary Snow.
