Gnarly Girl Wins APHA Claiming Futurity

TULSA, OK—JUNE 24, 2017—Gnarly Girl, a daughter of Quarter Horse sire Duke Kahanamoku drew away Saturday to win the $26,850 APHA Claiming Futurity at Fair Meadows in Tulsa.

The filly who was disqualified for interference in the last of two trials Claiming Futurity trials contested on June 10th returned an easy winner in Saturday's 330 yard final. Ridden to her second career win, by jockey Edwuin Lujan, she completed the task in :17.094 seconds with a 12-mph tailwind.

Trainer Dee Keener saddled the sorrel filly for owners Jay Ross and Steve Wright. Out of the Texas Hero mare Go Texas Girl, the Oklahoma-bred earned $12,083 to nearly double her earnings total to $23,577.

Royal Disturbance was a game second for owners Mark and Lori Dolan. Also trained by Keener, the gray filly is by SF Royal Quick Flash from the Judys Lineage mare Domestic Disturbance. Bred by Steven Wright she earned $6,713.

Coltonfortyfiveloaded, the only horse that was claimed for $5,000 in the June 10th trials, finished three-quarters back in third. It was the first start by the gelded son of The Dashing Hero for new owner Garrett Baker and trainer William Joe David. Also bred by Wright, from the Royal Quick Dash mare Smashed Calamity, Coltonfortyfiveloaded picked up $4,027 for the effort.

Th Begger Lady, Phoebe Dial, Rollin In The Snow, Chelsa Dagger, Dos Sign and Cockeyed Chicken completed the field.
