Tanquery Dash Springs the Upset in the Bucking Horse Sale Futurity at Miles City

MILES CITY, MT—MAY 21, 2017—There may have been a photo finish in the $25,770 Bucking Horse Sale Quarter Horse Futurity at Miles City on Sunday, but there was little anxiety for Jesse Villegas, who trained both the winner Tanquery Dash ($17.60) and the second-place finisher, Eyesa Special Cirrus.

Despite sitting at 15-1 on the morning line, Tanquery Dash prevailed by a nose over fastest qualifier Eyesa Special Cirrus to win the first of two stakes races on the card.

The Brindis Por Cayenne gelding and jockey Holly Gervais ran the 300-yard race in 15.847 to earn a 90 speed index. A Wyoming homebred for Gerald Kaul, Tanquery Dash is out of the stakes-winning mare Dashin Dashetta, by Dashin Moon Shadow.

Tanquery Dash was second in his trial for the Bucking Horse Sale Futurity behind Jr Kaweahs Mountain in the second of four trials contested for Sunday’s race. Fastest qualifier Eyesa Special Cirrus set a new track record in his trial, posting a 15:154 in the final trial.

Eyesa Special Cirrus was ridden by Luis Peralta, who rode both Eyesa Special Cirrus and Tanquery Dash in their respective trials. Eyesa Special Cirrus is owned by Steve Day and was bred in Wyoming by Broken Bones Cattle Company, by Eyesa Special Slim, out of the First N Six mare Lil Shameless Angel.

The gelding led briefly in the stretch of the final before losing the photo for the win and finishing a neck in front of third-place finisher Over Drive Man.

Over Drive Man, who also ran behind Eyesa Special Cirrus in their futurity trial, is owned by Mike Lipp and trained by David Greene. Jockey Joseph Belloc, Jr, who won the Bucking Horse Sale Bonus Challenge the previous day, had the call.

Over Drive Man was bred in Texas by Casey Albert Lipp. The colt is by Country Chicks Man, out of Georgia Gatorette, by Jesse James Jr.

Completing the field were A Toast to Brindis, Super Starr, Jr Kaweahs Mountain, My Little Aleida and Imma Make U Jealous.
