OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—APRIL 22, 2017— The Fiscal Cliff was a popular winning favorite when he broke on top and stayed there for a half-length win in the Grade 2, $50,000 Bob Moore Memorial Stakes.

According to the Equibase chart comments, The Fiscal Cliff "never felt the whip" when he covered the 300 yards in a time of 15.179 seconds over a fast track.

"He just had a really good break and he did his job," noted jockey Cesar Gomez. "He makes it look easy and it’s fun to ride a horse like that. He likes to run so the stick doesn’t really do much, he enjoys running."

Trainer Kasey Willis felt relieved with the win after many near misses through the first half of this Remington Park season.

"If they counted fourth as being in the money, I’d be like 100%. It was nice to get this one. Fiscal, his record speaks for itself and it’s awesome for him to get paid tonight. He’s going to have a big year. He’s incredible. He’s effortless to train and effortless to ride. We’re just fortunate to have him. " The Fiscal Cliff paid $7.40 to win, $4 to place and $3 to show. Memphis D Nasty raced in second throughout much of the race to finish there and pay $15.80 to place and $5.80 to show. Apollitical Ok finished third, a length behind the winner, paying $5.80 to show.

Owned and bred in Iowa by Thomas Lepic of Iowa City, Iowa, The Fiscal Cliff is a 4-year-old colt by Pyc Paint Your Wagon out of the Shazoom mare, Signs Zoomer. He earned $29,784 for his win to push his lifetime earnings to $346,118 with 10 wins in 17 lifetime starts.

This is the first win in the Bob Moore Memorial for all of the connections of The Fiscal Cliff. Lepic was in a partnership in 2010 when he enjoyed the victory by Spit Curl Diva in that year’s edition. The Bob Moore Memorial is named in honor of the Hall of Fame horseman who was prominent in American Quarter Horse racing for over four decades, operating from his Norman, Okla. farm.

Sunday afternoon racing, featuring the eighth Extreme Racing Day with exotic animal competition interspersed between the American Quarter Horse events. Presented by the Oklahoma Quarter Horse Racing Association, the Extreme Racing Day starts Sunday at 1pm. All times Central.
