Hez Our Prize Leads Wednesday Training Races At Remington Park

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—FEBRUARY 16, 2017—Unseasonably warm, and windy, weather greeted horsemen and their training race charges on Wednesday at Remington Park. Hez Our Prize posted the fastest time over 11 races, facing a strong headwind in the process.

Owned by Preston Cloud of Sallisaw, Okla. and trained by Clint Crawford, Hez Our Prize rolled over 250 yards in :13.557 seconds on a fast track. Under jockey Daniel Torres, Hez Our Prize put up the top time while running into a 16mph southerly wind. Temperatures on the bright and sunny afternoon reached the high 70s.

  A 2-year-old Oklahoma-bred gelding by first crop sire Hez Our Secret is from the Pyc Paint Your Wagon mare Pyc Oh Whatta Rose. The $15,000 Heritage Place Yearling Sale graduate put up his best time of the day in the 10th training race.

Miss Fly On Tac gained steadily in the middle of the track to take the lead and win under a hand ride in Race 4. The daughter multiple stakes sire Tac It Like a Man is conditioned by trainer Matt Whitekiller for owner/breeder Jackie Brown. The sorrel filly, out of Peek To Fly by Strawflyin Buds, posted the day's second fastest clocking of :13.59 seconds.

Merrilees Valentine, a colt by third crop sire Freighttrain B, dueled to front under urging in Race 6 to tie for the fourth fastest time of :13.63 seconds. Roy Garza owns-and trains the colt out of Dqs Chew Chew.

World champion/second crop sire One Dashing Eagle is the only sire with two winners on Wednesday's card. Makit Snappi, a $25,000 Heritage Place Sale graduate was squeezed at the start of Race 2 but rallied for a sharp win. John Hammes conditions the filly from Duke Mea Running for Charlie Mitcheck.

The other One Dashing Eagle winner was Jk Wildcat Red who kicked off the day with an impressive 1¼ length victory under a hand ride. Kenny Laymon trains the gelding for owner JK Running Horses.

Other sires with winners include Corona Cartel, Apollitical Jess, Mighty B Valiant, Tempting Dash, Streak And Dash and Coronas Prospect.

The 2017 American Quarter Horse Season at Remington Park will begin on Friday, March 10 and continue thru Saturday, June 3.
