Royal Quick Senator Sets Top Mark in Turf Paradise Maiden Stakes Trials

PHOENIX, AZ—JANUARY 15, 2017—Under jockey Vince Guerra, Royal Quick Senator raced to his first career win and the fastest qualifying time for the Turf Paradise Maiden Stakes (not black type) Sunday afternoon at Turf Paradise. The son of Louisiana Senator recorded the top mark of :15.776 seconds.

The 10 fastest qualifiers, from two trial races, will return to Turf Paradise on Sunday, January 29th to compete for the winners' share of a $5,000-added purse going 300 yards

Royal Quick Senator defeated Hoot And Holler by a neck to get the top qualifying time. The brown gelding entered the trials off a third-place finish for a $10,000 tag at Prairie Meadows last October. He was making his first start for owner/trainer Laurie Ferguson.

Arthur Devereaux bred Royal Quick Senator in Oklahoma from the Royal Quick Dash mare Arbeka Bee Quick. Competing in mostly claiming races last season he was third twice in six starts.

The lightly raced Dejonaro broke his maiden in the first trial to get the second fastest time of :15.796 seconds. He was the first of two qualifiers saddled by trainer Paul Treasure. Jockey Chase Clark had the riding assignment aboard Dejonaro for owner Susan Cornwall. The Mountain State Equine New Mexico bred son of Dejon is out of Fly Hawkish by Hawkish. He was making only his second career start.

Ralph and Carolyn Fales homebred Hoot And Holler held on for the third fastest clocking of :15.811 seconds after finishing second to the fastest qualifier. A finalist in the Grade 2 AQHA Juvenile Challenge Championship and the Turf Paradise Juvenile Challenge last year, Hoot And Holler is trained by Fales' son Matthew. Jorge Bourdieu rode the Carters Cartel gelding out of Fly Thru Fire by Walk Thru Fire.
