Imperial Eagle Continues Domination with Sunland Park Winter Juvenile Championship Victory

SUNLAND PARK, NM—DECEMBER 31, 2016—Charles Robinson's Imperial Eagle continues to be the dominate 2-year-old of 2016 after holding off Jm Mister Destiny by a nose in the $200,000 Sunland Park Winter Juvenile Championship at Sunland Park Saturday afternoon. Chainman finished half-length back in the show position.

Ridden by jockey Esgar Ramirez, Imperial Eagle covered the 400 yards in :19.735 seconds into a 2-mph crosswind. It was the third stakes win of the season for the Grade 1 All American Futurity winner who entered the race off a victory in the Grade 1 Southwest Juvenile Championship earlier this month at Zia Park.

Tony Sedillo conditions the son of 2016 leading sire of money earners One Famous Eagle from the Genuine Strawfly mare Jenuine Joy. Bred in California by Fredda Draper, Imperial Eagle has won six of nine starts and the $80,000 Juvenile Championship check brings his total earnings mark to $1,721,507.

Champion trainer Paul Jones saddled runner-up Jm Mister Destiny for owner J and M racing and Farm. The Mr Jess Perry gelding closed fast under jockey Manuel Gutierrez to pick up $36,000 for second. The lightly raced California-bred, out of Dinastia Toll Brz by Tolltac, has never been off the board in six starts this season. Bred by John Andreini Jm Mister Density has banked $251,200 this season.

Hobbs America Futurity(G2) winner Chainman bounced off a fourth-place effort in the Grade 1 Southwest Juvenile Championship on December 4th to pick up $18,000 for third. Harvey Baeza trains the son of Separatist for owner Benito Brito Arenivas. Kim Kessinger and RSG Racing Limited bred the bay colt in Texas from the Teller Cartel mare Ask The Question. He has earned $184,043.

A Fancy La Jolla, Mahoney N Tacklebery, Silk On Fire V, Dash Ta Desirio, Eaglelistic, Apollitical Dreaming, Jess Prize Me and Mojo Perry completed the field. Valorus was scratched.

Live racing resumes on Sunday at 12:45 p.m. (MST). The $65,000 Bold Ego Handicap (8th race) and the $85,000 Four Rivers/John Deere Stakes (9th race) are the Thoroughbred feature races.
