PORTLAND, OR—NOVEMBER 27, 2016—Coming off a win in the Far West Futurity consolation last month, Flyin Rocks was away alertly under jockey Osvaldo Gonzalez to win the second of two trials on Sunday for the Baxter Andruss Futurity at Portland Meadows. His time of :20.449 seconds, into a 5-mph headwind on a fast-wet course, was the top qualifying time of the day.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to the Pacific Northwest racetrack on Sunday, December 18th to vie for the winner's share of a $14,500-added purse for open 2-year-olds.

Trainer Jose Rosales saddled Flyin Rocks to his third win in six starts for owner Gilberto Madrigal. The son of Fly Chisholm also won the Pot O'Gold Futurity consolation at Sun Downs in May. Don Young bred Flyin Rocks in Oregon from the Rock Band (TB) mare Rock's El Dorado (TB). He has compiled a (6) 3-1-1 record while pocketing $7,801 this season.

Multiple stakes-placed Jesses Claim To Fame put in a game effort under jockey Eduardo Gutierrez-Sosa to finish a neck off the fastest qualifier while securing the second fastest time of :20.479 seconds. The son of Jesses James Jr was the first of two finalists saddled by trainer Hector Magallanes. Chris Philbrook owns the Ronald Raley Oregon-bred from the Dash Ta Fame mare One Fast Trick.

Magallanes also saddled multiple stakes winner Henry Craig to victory in the first trial to lockdown the third fastest time of :20.580 seconds into a 2-mph headwind. The son of leading second crop sire One Sweet Jess was bumped hard at the start but put in a strong rally under jockey Eduardo Gutierrez-Sosa to win by half-a-length.
