Koolnfamous Quickest Of All Qualifiers To The Grade 1, $950,000 Texas Classic Futurity
Koolnfamous, under jockey Esgar Ramirez, puts in a powerful effort to get the top time from 12 trials to the $1 million Texas Classic Futurity(G1) Saturday night at Lone Star Park.

Koolnfamous Quickest Of All Qualifiers To The Grade 1, $950,000 Texas Classic Futurity

GRAND PRAIRIE, TX—OCTOBER 22, 2016—Field is set for the Grade 1, $950,000 Texas Classic Futurity, to be held on Saturday, November 12 at Lone Star Park.

Jockey Esgar Ramirez guided Koolnfamous to the wire in race 5 posting the fastest qualifying time of the night at 400 yards in 19.813 seconds. The track was listed as fast. A speed Index of 91 was awarded for the effort.

Owned by Gene White, Wayne Metcalfe & Jerry Cate and trained by Toby Keeton, the gelded son of One Famous Eagle will return for a shot at the $1 Million in three weeks.

Bred by Cate, from the Walk Thru Fire mare Kool Fire, Koolnfamous entered thre race off a sixth place effort in the Grade 1 All American Futurity at Ruidoso Downs. He has earned $126,430 in six starts.

Of the 12 trial races run tonight, all but races 2, 4, 8 & 10 produced qualifiers for the final.

Midnight Heat, a Texas homebred racing for owner/breeder Julianna Hawn Holt, pulled three head in the finals with a three-quarter length victory in the 11th trial to post the second fastest time of :19.851 seconds, a 90 speed index. The lightly raced son of Corona Cartel from the Special Task mare Sandras Task was ridden by 10-time champion jockey G.R. Carter, Jr. and conditioned by Michael Joiner. The brown colt was making his first start since a seventh place effort in the Grade 2 Sam Houston Futurity last April. He has won two three starts.

Esgar Ramirez rode Maxx to the third fastest time of :19.869 seconds with a three-quarter length win in the final trial. Rolando Almanza trains the Pyc Paint Your Wagon gelding for owner Irma Vargas.

Jim Gubas bred the gelding in Oklahoma from the Bully Bullion mare Bullions N Garters. The Grade 3 Sam Houston Juvenile Challenge Winner has compiled a (4) 2-1-0 record and earned $35,299.

AQHA Racing champion jockey Ricky Ramirez piloted High Plains Perry to the fourth fastest clocking of :19.885 seconds in the third trial. It was the third win four starts for the Trey Wood trained son of Mr Jess Perry out of Sky Chicks, by Chicks Beduino.

Paragon Farms LLC owns the brown Texas-bred gelding. Johnny Trotter and Burnett Ranches, LLC is the breeder.

Owners Mike and Beth Harper and trainer James Helzer were hoping their Grade 1 All American Futurity runner-up The Marfa Lights would qualify, but he finished second in the first trial after a tough break.

However the Harper's Firing Tools, under Helzer's directions, rolled to an impressive 1¼ length win in the ninth heat to record the fifth fastest time of :19.905 seconds.

It was the second straight daylight win, in four starts, for the son of Walk Thru Fire out of No Tools Required, by Jody O Toole. Larry D Payne was aboard the Silver Racing Farm, LLC Texas-bred.

It was also a record night for trainer Trey Wood. He eclipsed the record for most wins on a single race card here tonight with six, surpassing the previous record of five wins set on November 28, 1999 by the late Steve Van Bebber.

Jockeys Esgar Ramirez and Ricky Ramirez qualified three finalists each to the Texas Classic Futurity(G1).

Also Ricky Ramirez rode five winners which tied the record with two other jockeys, Roy Baldillez who rode five winners on November 29, 2002 and Alvin Brossette who rode five winners on October 18, 2003.
