Fastest Qualifier Country Boy 123 Returns to Win Picov Derby

AJAX, ONT—SEPTEMBER 19, 2016—Fastest qualifier Country Boy 123 returned to Ajax Downs Monday afternoon to post a 1¼-length win in the $82,88(US) Picov Derby. Countrys Comin Back finished second half-a-length ahead of Panther Hero who was third.

Ridden by jockey Cory Spataro, Country Boy 123 went wire-to-wire while completing the 400 yards in :19.660 seconds, a 107-speed index into a 4 mph crosswind.

Trainer Bryn Robertston saddled the multiple stakes winning son of champion Country Chicks Man for owner Ruth Barbour. Bred in Michigan by Carolyn Bay, Country Boy 123 has won six of 11 starts and used the $30,605(US) Picov winners' purse to boost his career mark to $68,796.

The bay gelding is out of the Dash Thru Traffic mare Very Dashin 123.

Also by Country Chicks Man, Countrys Comin Bac races for owner/trainer Ralph Pearson. Tony Phillips rode the Ontario bred out of the Splash Bac mare Bac To Center. Bred by Marko Naterer, Countrys Comin Bac earned $17,573(US) for the effort.

Also a multiple stakes winner, Panther Hero races for owner John Wilson and trainer Scott Reid. Cassandra Jeschke had the riding assignment aboard the son of leading sire Valiant Hero from the Panther Mountain mare Rona Mountain. Bred by Carole Lampron, Panther Hero picked up $8,786(US) for third. He has earned over $81,000.

Sugarmans Delight, Speedocracy, Seis Zoom, Do U Zoom, Ice Fishin, Memory Of Jay and Valiant Stoli Time completed the field.
