SHELBYVILLE, IN—AUGUST 27, 2016—CB Come Fly With Me and jockey Rolando Pina were dominant in the trials and the scenario did not change in the final of the 17th running of the $192,739 QHRAI Stallion Service Auction (SSA) Futurity on Saturday. The duo rallied home easy winners in the 350-yard dash over their opponents.

Starting from post eight of the 10-horse field, CB Come Fly With Me had a clean break, as did the rest of the field. She was a threat early on, getting the early advantage and only increasing her lead.

At the finish line, the two-year-old daughter of champion sire Desirio was a winner by one and one-quarter lengths, showing her backers why she deserved the heavily favored status in the race.

Wrs Whoseyourdaddy and Omar Reyes chased CB Come Fly With Me to the wire in second place followed by Tres Seis Delight and Cesar Esqueda for third.

The final time was :17.594 seconds, besting the stakes winning record set in 2015 by My Louisiana Rod and Berkley Packer in a time of :17.664 seconds.

“She (CB Come Fly With Me) loves the off track,” said Pina, who has ridden her in every one of her five career starts. “Every time she comes out on the track, she wants it more. She loves to race.”

CB Come Fly With Me rewarded her backers with $2.60, $2.60 and $2.10 across the board. She is owned by Carolyn Bruce, who also bred the filly. Her mother, Miss Scarlet, has proven to be an outstanding broodmare for Bruce. She is also the dam of Stinkin Rich, whom Bruce still owns, giving her and Pina an owner-jockey riding double for the night.

"I told him after his win aboard Stinkin Rich to go out and do the same thing with this one,” said Bruce. “He (Rolando Pina) is the best. They both raced great."

The homebred filly is out of Miss Scarlet, by Sc Chiseled In Stone. She is a half-sister to multiple stakes winner and 2016 Bob Woodard Memorial Classic (see related story) third-place finisher Wh Design By Dash.

Randy Smith saddled runner-up Wrs Whoseyourdaddy for owner Deborah Smith. The Kentucky bred daughter of first crop sire Big Daddy Cartel is out of the Kool Quick Kid mare Wrs Kool Jess. Bred by Williams Racing Stables, Inc., the gray filly earned $38,548 to boost her earnings to $48,512.

Pattie Marshall, Roger Cyrulik and Jimmy Jackson’s Tres Seis Delight earned $19,274 for her third place finish. Anthony Cunningham trains the Louisiana-bred daughter of Agouti out of the Tres Seis mare Tres Seis Diamond. Mercy Hinklins Horse Farm, LLC is the breeder.

Hh Kentucky Krome, Zoomin B Cartel, Dnachrystalsfighter, Beach Zoomer, Cartels Justice, First Cucuy and Jess Jace completed the field.

Trainer Joe Davis has had a breakout season at Indiana Grand. He earned his first career stakes win earlier in the summer, winning the $40,000 Bradford Stakes with Parti Favor.

The Sellersburg, Ind. trainer, who recently sold his heating and air conditioning business to train Quarter Horses full time, is currently ranked third in the standings with 17 wins so far in 2016 at Indiana Grand. This is by far the biggest win of both his career and jockey Rolando Pina, who also earned his first career stakes victory with Parti Favor in July.

With Pina’s two wins on the night with Stinkin Rich and CB Come Fly With Me, he moves into a tie with Packer for leading Quarter Horse jockey in 2016 at Indiana Grand.

Live Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racing is conducted Tuesday through Friday at 2:05 PM EST with Saturday racing beginning at 6:05 PM. The 120-day season runs through Saturday, Oct. 29.
