Exquisite Stride Gets Up To Win A Thrilling Edition Of The Miss Polly Classic Stakes

VINTON, LA—JUNE 25, 2016—D & S Racing, LLC's Exquisite Stride rallied to defeat Jess Toast Winner by a neck in the Grade 3 $50,000 Miss Polly Classic Stakes Saturday night at Delta Downs. Secrets Fly finished 1¼ lengths off the leaders for third.

Ridden by jockey Joe Badilla, Jr., Exquisite Stride completed the 400 yards in :19.550 seconds, a 98-speed index for his sixth career win. The winner of last year's Evangeline Downs Derby, and a finalist in the 2014 All American Futurity(G1), earned $30,000 to bring his bankroll to $232,532.

Michael Taylor conditions the son of Carters Cartel from the Mr Jess Perry mare Tinys Lil Jess. Bred in California, the 4-year-old has compiled a (11) 6-2-1 record.

Also a graded stakes winner, Jess Toast Winner races for owner/breeder Maria Guadalupe Araiza and is trained by Rodolfo Sanchez. John Hamilton was aboard the Toast To Dash 4-year-old out of Runaway Jessy, by Feature Mr Jess. The $10,000 second place check brings his earnings mark to $133,075.

Multiple stakes winner Secrets Fly races for owner/trainer Jesus Garrido. Eddie Martinez had the riding assignment aboard the No Secrets Here 5-year-old. Bred in Oklahoma by Jovetta Meredith, from the Strawfly Special mare Once Upon A Fly, Secrets Fly boosted his earnings past $206,000 after pocketing $5,500 for third.

Former AQHA Racing World Champion Jrc Callas First broke in mid-pack and never threatened, finishing a disappointing fifth.

Sent to the gate as the 5-2 second choice of the fans, Exquisite Stride returned $7.80 to win, $4 to place and $3 to show. Jess Toast Winner paid $5.20 to place and $5.20 to show. Secrets Fly was worth $10.60 to show.

Completing the order of finish were Ojo de Rey, Jrc Callas First, This Wagons Okay, Jb First Rose and Moe Lassus.

Delta Downs will begin its 11th week of live racing on Wednesday night with a 10-race program that beings at 6:15 pm.
