One Sweet Jess Stablemates Run 1-2 In Desert Classic Futurity

PHOENIX, AZ—MAY 1, 2016—Magnificent Jess broke on top, drifted in then held for a neck win over stablemate Magical Jess in the $71,013 Desert Classic Futurity(R) at Turf Paradise Sunday afternoon. Ugo De La Torre owns both 2-year-olds by second crop sire One Sweet Jess.

Ridden by jockey Martin Osuna, Magnificent Jess completed the 300 yards in :15.513 seconds, earning a 97-speed index into the 6 mph crosswind. With a perfect 2-for-2 record the $35,506 winner's purse boosted his career total to $37,273.

Trained by Marko Loza, Magnificent Jess broke his maiden in first start, a trial for the Desert Classic, on April 10th. Bred by Jose and Gustavo De La Torre, the California-bred filly is from the Check Him Out mare Last To Check Him. Magnificent Jess was a $20,000 repurchase in the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale last summer.

Loza also conditions runner-up Magical Jess, a One Sweet Jess colt bred in California by EG High Desert Farms. Ridden by Rodolfo Arvizu, Magical Jess broke his maiden in the April 10th trials while setting the fastest qualifying time. Out of the Red Hot Rhythm mare Magic And Rhythm, Magical Jess picked up $14,203 for his effort. Magical Jess was a $12,000 repurchase in the Heritage Place September Yearling Sale.

Still a maiden from two starts, Tac It First improved off a fifth place effort in the time trials to finish 1¼ lengths back in third. Justin Joiner trains the Tac It Like a Man gelding for owner McColee Land and Livestock. Weetona Stanley and W.E. Smith bred the sorrel gelding in Oklahoma form the Mr Jess Perry mare First Prize Paris. Ridden by Sergio Dominguez, he picked up $7,101 for third.

Cozie Icon, Stones Hot Pursuit, One Sweet Dasher, La Moneda, Eagle Power, Easy Righter and Bb Biggist completed the field.
