PORTLAND, OR—JANUARY 25, 2016—For Sweet Jess was never headed Monday as he romped to a three-quarter length victory over stablemate Tickle Ur Fancy in the $18,400 Winter Derby at Portland Meadows. Dc Lady Juno finished a neck back for third.

Ridden by jockey Javier Matias, For Sweet Jess completed the 400-yard test in :19.861 seconds, a 105-speed index over a wet fast racecourse. Hector Magallanes conditions the son of second crop sire One Sweet Jess for owner Ruben Magallanes.

Bred in Arizona by K & R Allred Ranch LLC, For Sweet Jess has compiled a (10) 6-1-2 record and used the $7,360 Winter Derby winners' purse to boost his earnings mark to $48,042. Out of the Chicks Beduino mare For Some Cash, the gray gelding was third in the John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship(G3) two races back at Lone Star Park.

Stakes winner and fastest qualifier Tickle Ur Fancy dug in mid-track under jockey Jake Samuels to finish second for owner Hayden Brothers Ranch. Also saddled by Magallanes, the Dominyun filly earned $3,128 for the effort. Bred in Oklahoma by Bobby D. Cox, from the First Down Dash mare Sizzling Lola, Tickle Ur Fancy has earned $44,356.

Washington-bred Dc Lady Juno picked up $2,024 for her third place effort. The Gol filly made it a tri-fecta for trainer Hector Magallanes. Eduardo Gutierrez-Sosa rode the sorrel miss for owner/breeders Donald and Beverly Conway. She is out of the Juno Dat Cash mare Junomore.

Stella Corona, Secretly Fast, One Runaway Opener, Jk Dash, Ez Feisty Patriot, Shez Sneakin Fast and A Lucky Demon completed the field.
