Runaway Brooks Bay Sets Top I-80 Maiden Time

ROCK SPRING, WY—AUGUST 28, 2015—Runaway Brooks Bay, runner-up in the in Wyoming Downs Derby in his last start, was the much the best Friday afternoon when he posted a 1˝ length win to set the top qualifying mark of the I-80 Maiden Stakes (not black-type) at Sweetwater Downs.

The 10 fastest qualifiers, from the participants in two trial races who were still maidens as of April 1, 2015, will return to the Wyoming racetrack on Saturday, September 12 and vie for the winner's share of a $7,500-added purse going 250 yards.

Runway Brooks Bay, who broke his maiden on July 11 at Wyoming Downs, has now won three of five starts this season and earned $11,480. A homebred for A and C Racing and Roping, the Brookstone Bay 3-year-old is conditioned by Chancey Spencer.

Jockey Tyson Lusk rode the brown colt to the top mark of :13.323 seconds, a 94-speed index with no wind. Out of the Make It Anywhere mare A Fast Runaway, the New Mexico-breds overall record stands at (8) 3-3-1.

A and C Racing and Roping , Spencer and Lusk teamed again to win the second trial with Corona Midnight who clocked the second fastest time of :13.356, a 92 speed index. Chad Richard bred the daughter of leading sire Corona Cartel from the Brookstone Bay mare Brooks Midnight.

Friday's half-length trial victory was the first win in six-career starts for the brown filly.
