The Streakin Clean Dominates Independence Day Handicap

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—JULY 3, 2015—Javier and Leonardo Olmos’ The Streakin Clean looks ready for a Fall showdown with multiple stakes winner Quirky after posting the meet’s fastest 300-yard time of :15.19 in the $20,000 Independence Day Handicap on Friday at Los Alamitos.

The Streakin Clean, now a winner of three stakes races since December 14, and multiple graded stakes winner Quirky appear to be the top two older mares on the grounds. After Quirky won the Ivan Ashment Handicap on June 20 and her connections said that her likely next two starts could be the California Breeders Matron Stakes on July 25 and the Grade 1 Mildred Vessels Memorial Handicap on September 27.

The Arizona-bred The Streakin Clean is not eligible to run in the Matron Stakes, but she’ll likely be pointed to the Mildred Vessels in late September. On the line will be a berth to the Grade 1 Champion of Champions to be held on December 12.

“She was awesome tonight,” said jockey Oscar Peinado. “She did everything like we were hoping she would do.”

Trained by Jaime Gomez, The Streakin Clean earned $11,000 in the Independence Day while facing the opposite sex. The daughter of Streakin La Jolla finished 1¼-lengths ahead of the 6-year-old gelding Fols Jesse with the 3-year-old colt Amber Bock another half-length back.

The Streakin Clean won the Miss Princess Handicap on May 10 and the Hawkish Handicap at 100 last in December 2014. She’s finished in the top three in six consecutive stakes races. Bred by H & E Ranch Inc, The Streakin Clean improved to 10 wins in 25 starts with career earnings of $92,222. He is out of the Corona Cocktail mare Theslatesclean.

Fols Jesse races for owner/breeder Mesa Valley Farms, LLC and is trained by Mark Skeen. Cesar DeAlba was aboard to earn $4,500. The 6-year-old Jesse James Jr New Mexico-bred is out of Sheza Jet Dash, by Dash To Chivato.

Jose Flores saddled Amber Bock for owner Jorge Moya. Steve Burns and Carroll Hooper bred the Tr Dasher colt from the The Adamas mare Merrys Dolly. Cruz Mendez had the riding assignment. He picked up$2,500 for the effort.

All Out Arrogant and Sugardaddy B completed the field.

The Orange County oval will be dark for night racing tonight (July 4) in celebration of Independence Day, but the action will resume with the Grade 1 Vessels Maturity on Sunday. Grade 1 winner Moonist will headline the Vessels Maturity field.
