Irish Brew Wins Canterbury Park's Bob Morehouse Stakes

SHAKOPEE, MN—JUNE 28, 2015—Irish Brew won the $29,100 Bob Morehouse Stakes Sunday at Canterbury Park, defeating odds-on favorite Dirt Road Queen by a nose in 20.503 seconds for 400 yards.

The 4-year-old Minnesota-bred filly, owned by Paul Knapper and James Olson of Andover, Minn., was ridden by Stormy Smith and is trained by Jerry Livingston. Mr Hempens Feature was third.

“I knew she was a good racehorse, but I also knew Bob and Julie [Petersen]’s horse [Dirt Road Queen] was going to be hard to beat,” Olson said. “There’s a lot of Morehouse blood in this filly. Now to win the Bob Morehouse is just fantastic.”

Irish Brew, a daughter of Jess Zoomin from the Check The Charts mare Irish Bailey Brew, has now won three of 11 starts and $38,866. She paid $25.00 to win. Knapper is also the breeder.

“Irish just gutted it out,” Livingston said. “She just wouldn’t give it up. Anytime winning something with the Morehouse named attached to it is fabulous.”

Dirt Rode Queen is a homebred daughter of Country Chicks Man for Bob and Julie Petersen. William Harris trains with Ry Eikleberry getting the riding assignment. Out of the Blushing Bug mare Inclinda, Dirt Road Queen earned $5,820 to bring her earnings total to over $70,700. She is a multiple stakes winner.

Shane Miller saddled Mr Hempens Feature for owner/breeder Cynthia M. Besser. The Feature Mr Jess 8-year-old is out of Hempeness, by Hempen (TB). Also a stakes winner he has earned $37,321. Siggy Golibrzuch was aboard.

The race, in its 16th edition, is named for the late Bob Morehouse, a Canterbury Park Hall of Fame breeder.

Tty From Mr Pye, Explosive Guns, Fastbachaby and Little Bit Brandy completed the field.
