Three Olives N Smoke Tops Cherry Creek Futurity Trials, Toshi Yoshi Returns in Lucille Rowe Trials

Three Olives N Smoke Tops Cherry Creek Futurity Trials, Toshi Yoshi Returns in Lucille Rowe Trials

AURORA, CO—MAY 22, 2015—Making his second career start, Three Olives N Smoke broke his maiden with an impressive 2¾ length victory in the second of five trials Friday at Arapahoe Park to post the top qualifying time for the $75,000-est. Cherry Creek Futurity.

The 10 fastest Colorado-bred two-year-olds from Friday's trials will return to Arapahoe Park on Sunday, June 7 and vie for the winner's share of the purse going 330 yards.

Jockey Stormy Smith rode the Jess Louisiana Blue gelding to the top time of :17.018 seconds for trainer John Hammes. Bred by Margo Schares, the bay races for Ms. Schares and Brad Thomas. Three Olives N Smoke is out of the Corona Cartel mare Smokin Corona. In his only other start he was second in a maiden at Remington Park.

Tsunami Sis, a Wave Carver filly owned by Jack Cabala and trained by Jose Manuel Barron, finished second to Three Olives N Smoke, but managed to hold onto the second fastest clocking of :17.452. Francisco Giles rode the filly out of Smash Dance, by Easily Smashed. Cabla was the co-breeder with Pam Cabla.

Toshi Yoshi Tops Lucille Rowe Derby Trials

Last seasons Cherry Creek Futurity winner Toshi Yoshi rolled to a 1¾ length win over El Carboncito in the second trial on Friday afternoon contested for the $55,000-est. Lucille Rowe Derby at Arapahoe Park.

The 10 Colorado-bred two-year-olds, from the four trial races contested, who posted the fastest times will meet again on Saturday, June 6 at Arapahoe Park in the Lucille Rowe Derby final.

Ridden by jockey Ramiro Garcia, the lightly raced Toshi Yoshi completed his 350 yard task in :17.609 seconds to set the top qualifying mark and earn a 94 speed index. It was the third win for the Dana Yoshida-Orozco homebred son of multiple stakes winner Pool. Manuel Orozco trains the stakes winning gelding out of Mairis Money Maker by The Corona.

Also second in the Mile High Futurity last season, Toshi Yoshi has earned $68,174 with a (5) 3-1-1 record.
