Luv Supreme Sets Top Time for Grade 3 West Texas Derby Trials

SUNLAND PARK, NM—MARCH 6, 2015—Making her second career start outside of California, G1 placed Luv Supreme rolled to a one-length win in the last of six trials contested for the Grade 3 West Texas Derby at Sunland Park Racetrack & Casino today.

The 10 fastest qualifiers from the 51 three-year-olds who participated in today's trial races at 400 yards, will return to Sunland Park on Saturday, March 28 to vie tor the winner's share of a $181,504 purse.

Ridden by jockey Esgar Ramirez, Luv Supreme completed the 400 yard course in :19.467 seconds to post the fastest qualifying mark. The Mr Jess Perry filly races for the partnership of Coby Cobb, San Gregorio Racing Stable, Inc. and World Champion Racing Stables, LLC.

Trainer James Gonzales, II saddled the filly to her fourth win in eight career starts. Last season she was third in the Golden State Million Futurity(G1) and sixth in the Ed Burke Million Futurity(G1). Bred in California by Julianna Hawn Holt, from the Mr Eye Opener mare Thewayyouwantmetoo, Luv Supreme has earned $180,422.

Also making her first start of the season and first start since winning the Sunland Park Winter Futurity(G3) last December, Pycs Little Lady was a half-length winner in the second trial for owner Heysol Howlet and trainer Jaime Dominguez.

Bred in Colorado by Dominguez, the Pyc Paint Your Wagon filly has won four of eight career starts and earned $103,177. Ridden by jockey Manuel Gutierrez, the bay miss stopped the clock with the second fastest time of :19.601 seconds. She is out of the Heza Fast Man mare Fitness Lady.

Making his first start since a fifth place effort in the Southwest Juvenile Championship at Zia Park last November, V P Cornbread got the fourth fastest clocking of :19.631 seconds following a head win over This Fire Is Cold in the fourth trial.

Also trained by James Gonzales, II, the Executive Menace gelding races for owner Alejandro Jordan. Julie Irwin Cotton bred the sorrel in Texas from the Tres Seis mare Jc Pick Six.
