Last Man Standin Gets Up in FQHRA Stallion Derby

HIALEAH, FL—JANUARY 17, 2015—Running for a $15,000 tag just two race back, Last Man Standin got up at the wire to defeat Eat The Fish by a neck in the $112,910 FQHRA Stallion Derby Sunday afternoon at Hialeah Park. Jmf Jess Shamefull finished a nose back in third.

Ridden by jockey Rodrigo Vallejo, Last Man Standin completed the 350 yards in :17.679 seconds to pocket the winner's purse of $47,422. The victory brings the Jodys Money Pop 3-year-olds earnings to more than $66,000.

Trainer Judd Kearl conditions the sorrel gelding for owner Shawn McCain. Bred in Texas by County Line Runners, Last Man Standin is out of the Game Patriot mare La Jollas Game.

Eat The Fish, a New Mexico-bred daughter of Hard Hitting, earned $20,324 for owners Denis and Julie Schoenhofer. Kalah Welch conditions the brown filly out of Lets Talk Turkey, by Dash Thru Traffic. Omar Reyes was aboard the Terry and Nanette Lane bred miss.

Jmf Jess Shamefull is a Texas homebred First Down Jess gelding for Joe Flores. Yordan Sardinas trains with Yordanis Amaro riding. The brown 3-year-old earned $13,549 for his effort.

Completing the field were Hayjay, Game Rita, Jumpn Streak, Lebron J, Fearghas, Shooter James and Splishsplash.
