Curtain Closes On Another Record Breaking Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM–SEPTEMBER 4, 2022–Asscher and D Accountant tied as the top seller in the closing session Sunday night of a record-breaking three-day Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale at Ruidoso Downs, New Mexico.

The All American Ruidoso Horse Sale Company reported across-the-board increases in gross, average and median compared to last year's record setting event.

"A remarkable evening tonight, we were so fortunate to have such tremendous horses on the grounds," longtime Ruidoso Sale assistant Walt Wiggins said late Sunday. "After a record breaking Saturday session, Sunday night continued the trend.  We want to thank all of our consignors and wish all of buyers the best of luck with their purchases."

Three-hundred sixty of the 409 yearlings offered in 2022 sold for gross receipts of $26,323,500, an 11% increase over last year's $23,812,000 for 359 head. The 2022 Average price rose 10% to $73,121 compared to $66,329 in 2021.  The Median rose a healthy 7% to $51,500 this year over $48,000 in 2021.  The 49 head that went unsold represent an RNA rate of 14%.

Seventy-seven horses broke the $100,000 mark, 15 sold for $200,000 or more and six head brought over $300,000.

Lance Bland paid $350,000 Sunday night for Hip 323, an FDD Dynasty filly out of the champion mare Astica by Jesse James Jr. MJ Farms consigned the half-sister to five black type runners. The second dam is champion mare Alice K White by First Down Dash. Asscher was the high-selling filly at the 2022 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale.

Also on Sunday, Jose Espinoza, Aurelio Juavez and Adam Sanchez paid $350,000 for Hip 336 D Accountant, a brother to champion 2-year-old gelding Trump My Record. Lazy E Ranch, LLC Agent for Victor Diaz consigned the Apollitical Blood colt out of Break N Records by Pyc Paint Your Wagon.

The highest price horse sold over the three days came in Saturday night's eye-popping session that averaged a record $88,000 per head.

West Texas Racing Partnership purchased high-seller, Hip 276 Goodtyme, for $460,000 from the Bobby D. Cox consignment. The son of leading sire Apollitical Jess is out of the youngest AQHA Dam of Distinction ever, Havanah Goodtime by Ivory James. Goodtyme is a half-brother to champion Duponte and Heritage Place Futurity(G1) winners Nymeria and Sunnyside.

West Texas Racing Partnership was the sale's leading buyer with seven purchases grossing $1,765,000. Reliance Ranches LLC paid $1,105,000 for 12 head and La Feliz Montana Ranch, LLC paid $674,000 for seven yearlings.

Burns Ranch, Agent led all consignors and agents with $3,356,000 gross receipts on 23 head sold. Rancho Cabestro, Inc. sold 14 head for $1,977,000 and MJ Farms, Agent had 23 head gross $1,816,000.

Other consignors who broke one-million dollars in sales were  Bobby D. Cox (10/$1,765,000) Lazy E Ranch, LLC Agent (26 / $1,713,000) and Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent for McColee Land & Livestock, LLC (21 / $1,677,000). 

Apollitical Jess was the leading sale sire (by average, with two or more sold), with 37 head averaging $137,432. Apollitical Blood had seven yearlings average $110,571 and Corona Cartel had 14 for $91,786.

Flying Cowboy 123 was the leading first-year sale crop sire (by average, with two or more sold), with 11 head for $61,727. Mitole (TB) had six for a $36,333 average and Eagle Deluxe averaged $26,000 from two head sold.

Leading Thoroughbred sire Into Mischief’s first Quarter Horse crop saw two yearlings average $57,000.
