Mr American Tops First Session Of Los Alamitos Equine Sale; Average Sale Price Is Nearly Identical F

CYPRESS, CA—OCTOBER 1, 2016—Roberto Parra and Ricardo Ramirez bought the high seller of the opening session of the 12th annual Los Alamitos Equine Sale after purchasing Hip #94 Mr American, a Corona Cartel colt out of Allamericandreamgirl, from Lazy E Ranch, Agent Agent for Marla K. Robinson Family Trust for $82,000 on Saturday. The second and final session of the Los Alamitos Equine Sale featuring Hips #162 thru #322 will kick off at 10 a.m. on Sunday.

Mr American is a half brother to American Runaway, the 2010 AQHA champion 2-year-old and champion 2-year-old colt. American Runaway earned $686,355 during an outstanding career that included a win in the Ruidoso Futurity and second place finishes in the Texas Classic Futurity, Rainbow Futurity and Remington Park Futurity. Mr American is also a half brother to the stakes winner Feature Dreamgirl. Mr American’s family includes champions Dashing Phoebe, Heartswideopen and Special Phoebe.

Overall figures for the opening session were nearly identical to the numbers from day one of the 2015 sale. The sale average per horse was $16,178, up from the 2015 average per horse of $16,161. The difference is 1/10th of one percent. The average broodmare price was up by 29% to $16,775 this year from $12,992 in 2015. The average yearling price decreased slightly to $16,305 from $16,585 last year. The difference, however, is only 1.7%. There were a total of 17 horses that sold for $30,000 or more on day one of the sale, up from last year’s number of 14 that went for $30,000 and up. A total of 109 horses sold on Saturday for a total of $1,763,400.

Ron and Denise VanAmburgh purchased the second highest seller on Saturday when they purchased the broodmare Hip #123 What Fire for $71,000. A mare by Walk Thru Fire and out of the champion and All American Futurity winner AB What A Runner, What Fire is the mother of this year’s Los Alamitos Winter Derby winner Fire At Will ($166,727).

Fawna Knight purchased the second highest selling yearling of the opening session with her acquisition of Hip #156 Another Book for $67,000. Another Book is a colt by Walk Thru Fire and out of All American Derby finalist Callan Rock. Knight purchased Another Book’s full brother, Worth Doing ($255,450), at the Los Alamitos Equine Sale last year. Worth Doing has already finished second in the Grade 1 Ed Burke Million Futurity and Governor’s Cup Futurity. Another Book is also a full brother to Bookish, which ran in the Ed Burke Million and PCQHRA Breeders Futurity last year.

Ed Allred purchased Hip #63 Solid Fire MV from the Lazy E Ranch LLC, Agent for $50,000, while Spackman Racing paid $50,000 for Hip #87 Slates Famous Eagle. A colt by Walk Thru Fire and out of 2015 Champion of Champions finalist Solid Connection. Solid Fire MV’s second dam is the Grade 1 winner Dinastia Toll Brz, who is also the mother of champion and Grade 1 winner FDD Dynasty and the stakes placed Brazilian Dasher. Brazilian Dasher is the mother of champion 3-year-old colt Apollitical Blood.

Sired by One Famous Eagle, Slates Famous Eagle is a half-brother of multiple stakes winner The Streakin Clean ($95,147). Her wins include the Miss Princess, Independence Day and Hawkish handicaps.

Edward Allred was the sale's leading buyer on day 1 with four purchases totaling $144,000. Alejandro Castaneda had seven buys for $93,200 and the aforementioned Ricardo Ramirez and Roberto Parra was the third leading buyer with the one purchase.

Allred was also the opening session leading consignor or agent with 23 head grossing $446,100. Burns Ranch, Agent had 16 head bring $353,000 and Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent for Marla K. Robinson Family Trust had two head bring $100,000. Lazy E Ranch, Agent for numerous other clients took six of the top ten sellers spots on day 1.

Corona Cartel is the opening day leading sire (by average with two or more sold) with two yearlings averaging $58,500. Walk Thru Fire had seven average $35,286 and One Famous Eagle had two yearlings for $32,250.

The second day will be headed by Lazy E Ranch, LLC., Agent for John Andreini consignment of Hip #196 Pursue Pappasito, a half-brother to champion FDD Dynasty; Hip #232 Back Again, a full brother to three-time derby winner Forget It; Hip #299 Hot Looking Guy, a full brother to multiple Grade 1 winner He Looks Hot, the hero of the 2014 Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity; and Hip #300 Take A Look, a stakes winning mare still in training and recent participant of the Grade 1 Mildred Vessels Memorial Handicap.
