Strong Second Session Lifts TQHA Yearling Sale on Saturday

SAN ANTONIO, TX—JULY 30, 2016—After a soft opening session on Friday the TQHA Yearling Sale rallied in it's final session today (Saturday) to fall just slightly short of last year's final numbers.

"For all that is going on economically in the financial markets, we couldn’t be more pleased with the overall sale results," TQHA Executive Director Val Clark said Saturday following the final session.

The 2016 sale ended it's two-day run today with 170 head of the 274 offered sold for a $2,396,600 gross. This compared to 183 sold from 286 offered last year for $2,670,600.

The 170 yearlings sold this year averaged $14,098, down slightly from $14,593 in 2015. The median price of $8,750 was compared to $9,000 last year.

"We appreciate all who consigned horses and of course the buyers," Clark said. "We wish everyone the best of luck with their purchase and look forward seeing these great babies in the TQHA Sale Futurity trials next year," she added.

The high-selling yearling came in the opening session when Mary G. Thompson paid $100,000 for a colt by leading sire One Famous Eagle. Granada Farm, Agent for Pete Scarmardo, consigned the colt (who was cataloged as a gelding), This Is An Eagle, as Hip 81.

The sorrel colt is out the graded stakes producing First Down Dash mare Lady Lilia, a half-sister to G3 winner Desirio, G2 winner Corona For The Lady and stakes winner No Ordinary Love.

Carlos Lozano purchased Saturday's high-seller (second over all high-seller) Hip 203 Cindys Dynasty for $95,000. Haddad Ranch consigned daughter of leading sire FDD Dynasty from the stakes winning and multiple stakes producing Corona Cartel mare Cindys First Cd. This is the family of All American Futurity winner Falling In Love Again.

Hip 155, Runaway Heroine, the third high-seller at $60,000 when to Leon Bard Agent. Granada Farm, Agent consigned the daughter of leading sire Valiant Hero from the RG3-placed daughter of Tres Seis Runaway Trs Seis. This is the family of RG2 winner Fast Talkin Henry and All American Futurity(G1) runner-up Moons High.

Paragon Farms is the sale's leading buyer with four purchases grossing $147,000. Ricardo Barrera paid $131,000 for 10 head and Elizabeth Horton purchased four yearlings for $111,500.

Bobby D. Cox led all consignors or agents with 28 head grossing $566,600, Jerry Windham had six head gross $129,500 and Granada Farm, Agent for Johnny Trotter sold seven yearlings for $126,500.

FDD Dynasty led all sale sires (by average with two or more sold) with two head averaging $55,500. One Famous Eagle had six yearlings average $39,667 and Jess Louisiana Blue had two yearlings average $31,250.

Champion Hez Our Secret was the "first sale-crop" leading sire (by average with two or more sold) with seven yearlings averaging $13,100.
