TQHA Yearlings Enjoy Across The Board Increases

SAN ANTONIO, TX—JULY 25, 2015—TQHA's two-day Annual Yearling sale saw strong buying on in the second session that helped drive increases in gross, average and a very healthy median when trading ended this afternoon (July 25) in San Antonio, Texas.

There were 183 horses sold over two days, accounting for $2,670,600 in total sales, marking a 8% rise on the previous year's turnover. The average also rose 8% to $14,593 and the median enjoyed a huge 29% increase to $9,000 as compared to $7,000 in 2014.

"This year's TQHA sale has attracted several new buyers," said TQHA Executive Director Val Clark. "We had a 7% increase in horses offered this year and we want to thank both the consignors and buyers who made it a success."

Louisiana Cricket, a colt by first crop sire The Louisiana Cartel, brought the sale's top bid on Friday of $140,000 from Billy Tiffee. Double S Farm consigned the colt out of Quick Lil Cricket, by Royal Quick Dash, as agent for Mary Denson. Louisiana Cricket is a half-brother to G3 winner The Field Cricket ($138,846).

Valeriano Racing Stables paid $80,000 for Kazoomin, a colt by multiple stake sire Azoom from the Feature Mr Jess mare Smiles All Round. Consigned by Granada Farms, Agent for Mike Amburn, Kazoomin is a half-brother to multiple stakes winner and G1 placed One Valiant Hero ($389,799). Valeriano Racing bought One Valiant Hero for $67,0000 at the 2012 TQHA Yearling Sale.

Ramon Vega purchased the third high-seller, Mr Shining for $70,000. The Shining First Dash colt is a half-brother to champion and leading sire Tempting Dash ($673,970). 6666 Ranch Agent for Muller Racing, LLC consigned the sorrel colt out of former Broodmare of the Year A Tempting Chick, by Chicks Beduino.

Ricardo Barrera was the sale's leading buyer with 17 purchases grossing $360,400. Billy Tiffee paid $188,000 for four yearlings, the aforementioned Ramon Vega purchased 14 head for $175,300 and Valeriano Racing Stables paid $123,000 for two head.

Bobby D. Cox led all consignors with 19 yearling grossing $323,000. Granada Farms, Agent had 11 head for $199,400, 6666 Ranch Agent, Agent for Johnny Trotter sold five yearlings for $198,000, and JEH Stallion Station, Agent for Mercy Hinklin Horse Farm had 10 head gross $167,600.

Mr Jess Perry led all sale sires (by average two or more sold) with two yearlings averaging $57,500. Shining First Down had two yearlings for $37,500 average, One Famous Eagle sold 17 head for a $30,971 average and Tempting Dash had three yearlings average of $25,500.

First racing crop sires Dominyun saw five head average $22,880, The Louisiana Cartel had nine head average $22,400, Bodacious Dash had three yearlings average $18,167 and One Sweet Jess sold two for a $14,250 average.
