VINTON, LA—MAY 5, 2021—Mag 1, a 5-year-old son of the Mr Jess Perry stallion Mr Jess Kue campaigned by Mag 3 Racing, is one of 10 sprinters entered in Monday’s 250-yard, $20,000 Delta Dash Stakes at Delta Downs.

Mag 1 will be making his first official start since October 22, when he ran third, 1 1/2 lengths behind winner Peytons Last Dash, in the 250-yard, $30,000 Lakeview Dash Stakes (R) at Evangeline Downs. The gelding has won five of 11 starts, including three of five at the 250-yard distance, and he has earned $103,720.

Mag 1 drew post 5 and will be ridden by Rolando Cabrera for trainer Saul Ramirez Jr.

Also on Monday, 39 sophomores are entered in four 350-yard Old South Derby trials.

Cruzin Cartel, a graded stakes winning son of Teller Cartel trained by Martin Trejo for owners Claudia Galvan and Martin Galvan, drew post 5 and will be ridden by Everardo Rodriguez in the first heat. An $18,000 purchase at the 2019 Texas QHA Yearling Sale, the sorrel gelding has earned $188,820 from five outs, and his two wins include a half-length victory in last year’s 350-yard, $406,000 TQHA Sale Futurity (RG1) Retama Park.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the $25,000-added Old South Derby final on May 31.
