Hes Relentless 2-Year-Olds Show Promise in MQHRA Stallion Service Auction Trials at Canterbury

SHAKOPEE, MN—JUNE 13, 2019—Canterbury Park will hold trials for the $20,000-added MQHRA Stallion Service Auction on Friday. The final will be held on Sunday, July 7, on a card featuring seven stakes worth over $350,000 in purses.

Half of the fourteen horses entered in the two trials are sired by Hes Relentless, who has been available in the online auction since 2016.

In the first trial, leading Canterbury Park trainer Jason Olmstead brings two Hes Relentless fillies to the gate, including morning-line favorite #3 Tipsy Girl B (5-2). Tipsy Girl B will be ridden by Cristian Esqueda, who was also aboard the filly’s previous start at Remington in May, when she broke her maiden at 300 yards and earned a 90 speed index. Tipsy Girl B was bred in Texas by Bielau Oaks, out of the FDD Dynasty mare Devil Wears Prada B and is owned by Tom Maher and Paul Luedemann.

Also of note in the field is #5 Hes a Kingman (3-1), trained by Randy Weidner and ridden by Nik Goodwin. The gelding has made two lifetime starts and just missed first in his previous race. Jockey Nik Goodwin holds the record for most career Quarter Horse wins at Canterbury.

The second trial is headlined by #2 Fly Relentless Fly (5-2), ridden by Jorge Torres for trainer Stacy Charrette-Hill and owners Terry and Mary Louise Pursel. Fly Relentless Fly finished second in both of his two prior races at Remington Park this spring. He was bred in Okalhoma by Bob Moore Farms, by Hes Relentless and out of the Strawfly Special mare Strawfly Six.

Trainer Vic Hanson will saddle #5 Hr Storm On In, the only horse in either trial with three career starts to date and one of just two horses who have won a race. Hr Storm On In and jockey Doug Frink won a maiden race at Canterbury at 300 yards by a half-length on June 1.

From a pedigree angle, #7 Fastest Leader (10-1) is one to watch. Trained by Bob Johnson, owned by John Johnson and bred by Wardell Quarter Horses in Wyoming, the Hasta Be Fast colt is out of Leadmetoyourladder, the dam of multiple stakes winners Hastabealeader and Faster than Hasta.

The trials will kick off the Friday evening card at Canterbury; first post is 6:10 pm CT.

The MQHRA Stallion Auction Futurity is open to any 2-year-old sired by a horse that was nominated to the online MQHRA Stallion Service Auction. There are no state-bred restrictions. The MQHRA Stallion Service Auction is held every January and features over 70 stallions from across the country.

The 2019 Canterbury Park Quarter Horse stakes schedule includes 17 stakes races worth over $70,000.

Live Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racing continues through Saturday, September 14, 2019. The race meet offers racing on Thursday and Friday evenings at 6:00 pm CT and Saturday and Sunday afternoons at 12:45 pm CT. in June and July. Quarter horse racing is held at the beginning of each race card.
