147 Youngsters Compete Tonight For One Of 10 Coveted Spots In The Grade 1, $1 Million Texas Classic

147 Youngsters Compete Tonight For One Of 10 Coveted Spots In The Grade 1, $1 Million Texas Classic

GRAND PRAIRIE, TX—OCTOBER 19, 2018—Trials for the Grade 1, $1 million Texas Classic Futurity, annually the richest horse race run in Texas, attracted 147 two-year-olds in 14 races tonight (Saturday) at Lone Star Park.

Only 10 horses with the fastest finish times in the 400-yard trials will gain eligibility to run in the $1 million final which will be held on Saturday, November 10, closing night of the 2018 Quarter Horse Season at Lone Star Park. Gates open at 5 p.m. First race post time is 6:05 p.m.

The winner of this year’s Grade 1, $3 million All American Futurity will race for a chance to compete in the lucrative Texas Classic Futurity.

Apocalyptical Jess, a gelding by leading sire Apollitical Jess has drawn into the ninth race and will break from post three. He is owned by Bill T. Robbins and trained by Blane Wood. Although jockey Raul Ramirez Jr. rode him to victory in the All American, all-time leading Quarter Horse rider at Lone Star, Ricky Ramirez will be aboard this time.

Also drawing into the ninth race breaking from post four is Blue Star Racing’s Dak. The gelded son of Dominyun won the Grade 3, TQHA Sale Futurity at Retama Park in July. Dak is trained by Leon Bard and will be ridden by Francisco Calderon.

Fm Im a Zatanaz Too, winner of the Grade 2, Sam Houston Futurity, has drawn into the first race on the card. A gelding by Tempting Dash he won his trial to the Grade 2, Firecracker Futurity at Delta Downs finishing second by a head in the final.

Also in the first race is Patriotic Games who won the Grade 2, Firecracker Futurity over Fm Im a Zatanaz Too. Previous to that he placed in the Grade 3, Harrah’s Futurity at Louisiana Downs in March, and placed again in the Grade 2, Sam Houston Futurity in April. Patriotic Games, a son of First Down Dash is owned by Ramiro Jaime Flores, Sr. and trained by Eduardo Morales. He will be ridden by John Hamilton.

One more possible in the first trial tomorrow is Retama Juvenile Challenge Futurity winner, Jess Leaving Fast. Santiago Riojas, Jr. trains for owner Double H Racing Investments LLC. The son of Heza Fast Dash will break from gate three. Jockey Nestor Duran will ride.

In the second race is the winner of the All American Juvenile Stakes, Danjer. The gelding by FDD Dynasty is owned by partners Dean R. Frey, Downtime Enterprises LLC and Billy G. Smith. Dean R. Frey also trains. Cody Jensen retains the mount.

Other graded stakes winners in the trials include Long Wagon Ho in race 10, winner of the Grade 3, Oklahoma Futurity. He is owned and trained by Julio Corral. Alfredo Triana, Jr. has the mount.

In race 12 breaking from the outside post is Newman Cattle Company LLC’s Blue Corazon winner of the Grade 1, Ruidoso Futurity. The gelding by leading first-crop sire Coronado Cartel is trained by Blane Wood with top rider Ricky Ramirez in the saddle.

Winner of the La Fiesta Futurity at Albuquerque Downs last month is Faster Then U, a gelding by Ivory James. He is trained by Jimmy Padgett and will be ridden by Rodrigo Vallejo.

There are many nice individuals competing tomorrow night and with 14 races scheduled there will be plenty of exciting racing action happening. Make plans to attend and cheer on your best bets. You could leave richer than when you came!
