Texas Classic Futurity Trials Set for Saturday

GRAND PRAIRIE, TX—OCTOBER 17, 2018—A total of 137 2-year-olds, topped by All American Futuriy (G1) winner Apocalyptical Jess, has been entered in Saturday’s 400-yard Texas Classic Futurity (G1) trials at Lone Star Park.

A sorrel son of Apollitical Jess trained by Blane Wood for owner Bill T. Robbins, Apocalyptical Jess has earned $1,506,400 from four starts, most of which has come from his three-quarter length victory in the 440-yard, $3-million All American Futurity (G1) at Ruidoso Downs on September 3. The gelding drew post 3 and will be ridden by Ricky Ramirez in the ninth of 14 trials.

Newman Cattle Co.’s Blue Corazon, also a Grade 1 winner during the Ruidoso Downs meet, drew post 10 and will be ridden by Ricky Ramirez for trainer Blane Wood in the 12th heat. A gray Coronado Cartel gelding, Blue Corazon won his first three starts, including the 350-yard, $1-million Ruidoso Futurity (G1) on June 10.

Patriotic Games, a son of First Down Dash trained by Eduardo Morales for owner Ricardo Jaime Flores Sr., drew post 7 and will be ridden by John Hamilton in the first trial. The colt will be making his first start since July 4, when he scored a head victory in the 350-yard, $363,000 Firecracker Futurity (G2) at Delta Downs.

Other prominent juveniles entered in Saturday’s trials include Blue Star Racing’s Dak and Long Wagon Ho, a Pyc Paint Your Wagon colt owned and trained by Julio Corral. Dak will be stretching out in distance off of his half-length victory at odds of 16-1 in the 350-yard, $479,000 TQHA Sale Futurity (RG3) at Retama Park on July 28.

Francisco Calderon will ride Dak from post 4 in the ninth heat.

Long Wagon Ho will be making his first official start since March 24, when the colt scored a nose victory at odds of 11-1 in the 300-yard, $371,000 Oklahoma Futurity (G3) at Remington Park. Long Wagon Ho drew post 4 and will be ridden by Alfredo Triana Jr. in the 10th trial.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the $1 million-est. Texas Classic Futurity final on November 10.
