NEW ORLEANS, LA—AUGUST 16, 2018—Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots will present an 11-race card, featuring two stakes on Saturday.

Post time for the ten-race card is 12:30 pm (Central) with a field of ten accredited Louisiana-bred fillies and mares entered in the $40,000 Audubon Stakes.

M&M Stables LLC’s La Mos Corona has been installed as the 5-2 morning-line favorite. Bred by Oscar Rhone, the daughter of Coronas Leaving You out of the multiple-stakes winning mare La Mos Chingono, has won her last six starts, including three stakes this year. Trained by Orlando Orozco, La Mos Corona’s most recent victory came on July 7 at Delta Downs when she defeated nine rivals in the $50,000 Flashy Hemp Stakes. Floriberto Maldonado will ride the bay filly, breaking from post position seven.

LQHBA and 2017 AQHA champion trainer Kenneth Roberts, Sr. will saddle a pair of fillies in the Audubon. Fastdashing Lassie, owned by Keithon Roberts, is a 3-year-old daughter of Heza Fast Dash. She competed in trials for four futurities last year, and exits a fifth-place finish in the Flashy Hemp. David Alvarez will pilot the filly bred by Jumonville Farms and Burnett Ranch. Donald Watson has the call on Aymond Bates LLC’s Jess Political, a filly by Jess Louisiana Blue, bred by Jumonville Farms. She has three wins from seven starts.

The 350-yard Audubon Stakes is the ninth race on the Saturday afternoon card.

Gentilly Stakes

The $25,000 Gentilly Stakes is set as the fourth race of the afternoon. Six accredited Louisiana-breds will sprint 250 yards. Rdd Lajollanfastdash is the co-favored 7-2 choice. The son of Heza Fast Dash was bred by Richard Dale Domingue and has topped the $400,000 earnings mark for owner Miguel A. Aguilar. Jockey Modesto Pina has the call aboard the 2016 Mardi Gras and LQHBA Sale Futurity champion. Pedro Lopez trains the 4-year-old gelding.

Horses of Fire, Inc.’s Dm La Jolla, has already won a pair of 250-yard stakes this year for trainer Porfirio Fierro. He won the Delta Dash in April as well as the TQHA 250 Stakes last month at Retama Park. Rolando Cabrera has the return call aboard the 4-year-old gelded son of Hiclass La Jolla, bred in Texas by Donna Mushinski.

Last year’s leading Fair Grounds rider John Hamilton will ride Lil Bro Big Streak. Owned by Rosendo Valdez and trained by Rosendo Valdez, Jr., the 4-year-old sired by Jet Black Patriot will make his fifth start of 2018. He ran third in his most recent start, the Par A Dice Stakes at Delta. Downs The field also includes Louisiana Downs Swift Stakes winner, Fast N Famous Eagle and Bjs Magic Wings, winner of the Louisiana Purchase Stakes at Delta Downs. Jrs Taylors Runnaway is cross-entered in the opening day Treme Stakes.
