Fourteen Sophomores Entered in Ontario Sires Derby Trials
BY MICHAEL CUSORTELLI
AJAX, ONTARIO, CANADA—AUGUST 11, 2018—Fourteen 3-year-olds have been entered in Sunday’s 350-yard Ontario Sires Derby (R) trials at Ajax Downs.
George Coleman’s Firing Red Jess, a sorrel son of the Mr Jess Perry stallion Mr Jess Tex, drew post 3 and will be ridden by Cassandra Jesschke for trainer Scott Reid in the first of two trials.
The gelding has won two of his four starts this season, and he was a finalist in last year’s 400-yard, $113,000 Alex Picov Memorial Futurity at Ajax Downs.
The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the $55,000-added Ontario Sires Derby final on September 2.
