Daddys Moe, Nachito Coronel Favored In Quarter Horse Stakes At Indiana Grand Racing & Casino

SHELBYVILLE, IN—JUNE 14 2018—Daddys Moe and Nachito Coronel have been tagged as the favorites in their respective Futurities Saturday. Daddys Moe leads a field of 10 vying for the title of the $129,600 Jaguar Rocket Futurity while Nachito Coronel is the heavy favorite in the $181,900 Gordon Mobley Futurity.

The races are slated as the ninth and tenth, respectively, on the 10-race program at Indiana Grand.

Owned by breeder Rose Bode, Daddys Moe was an impressive winner in his trial for the 16th running of the Jaguar Rocket Futurity Final during the first of six all Quarter Horse racing nights Saturday, June 2.

The two-year-old son of Carters Cartel rolled out to the lead from the start and never looked back, scoring the victory in the fastest time of :15.500 seconds for the 300-yard dash. The gelding returns for the final as the 6-5 favorite from post 10 and will be ridden once again by Jose Beltran, the track’s leading Quarter Horse jockey.

Daddys Moe will be one of two saddled by Indiana Grand’s all-time leading Quarter Horse Trainer Randy Smith for the Jaguar Rocket Futurity Final. Smith also has Coronados Quiksilver, who is the second choice of the field and begins from post nine at odds of 5-2 with James Flores aboard. Rarely A Tres, who finished a neck behind Daddys Moe in the trials, is the third choice on the morning line at odds of 8-1 for trainer Anthony Cunningham.

Another very impressive performer will be on the track for the ninth running of the $181,900 Gordon Mobley Futurity Final. Nachito Coronel comes into the race off two wins at Indiana Grand, including one of the Mobley trials with the fastest time of :15.497 seconds.

The sorrel Habits Secret gelding, owned by Patricia Del Rocio Lopez, took over just a few strides into his 300-yard dash and easily slid under the wire as the winner by one and three-quarter lengths. Trained by Ricardo Martinez, Nachito Coronel will be looking for his third straight win from post eight at odds of 4-5. Sergio Ramirez, who had not ridden at a recognized track for more than four years prior to riding June 1 at Indiana Grand and now is three for four at Indiana Grand, is back aboard Nachito Coronel.

Joining Nachito Coronel as a major contender in the Mobley Futurity Final is Stoneburner, also a trial winner June 2. The Brimmstone gelding, owned by Gerald Keesling, powered home to the trial win in a time of :15.527 seconds. Trained by Smith, Stoneburner is also undefeated in two career starts heading into the Mobley Futurity Final and begins from post five with Beltran aboard.

The second of six all Quarter Horse racing nights is slated for Saturday, July 7. The evening will feature the $40,000 Bradford Stakes, the $50,000 Indiana Grand QHRAI Derby and trials for the Blue River Derby and the Heartland Futurity. The Quarter Horse Racing Association of Indiana (QHRAI) will provide $2 race wagers to the first 100 racing fans along with t-shirts. Kevin Cox, nationally known racing analyst and handicapper also known as the "Bronx Cowboy," will be on hand to provide additional support for the evening, which begins at 6:05 p.m.

The 16th season of Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racing continues through Wednesday, Nov. 7. Racing is conducted Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday at 2:05 p.m. EST with Saturday racing beginning at 6:05 p.m. EST. Two special Thursday racing dates will be held July 19 and Sept. 6 with a 2:05 p.m. EST post time.
