GILLETTE, WY—JUNE 13, 2018—Energy Downs will honor the memory of the late K.C. Carden on Friday, as the track’s feature race, the 350-yard, $7,000 -added K.C. Carden Memorial Stakes, has drawn a field of seven 3-year-old Quarter Horses.
One Sweet Dance, a stakes winner in the Intermountain region during his 2-year-old campaign, drew post 4 and will be ridden by Tyson Lusk. A homebred daughter of One Sweet Jess trained by Jordan Hadley for owners Ed McNelis and Karla Diaz, the filly has earned $25,513 from eight outs, and her three wins include a neck victory in the September 4, $37,000 Elko Intermountain Futurity at the Elko County Fair.
A longtime horseman, Carden died on February 13 after a battle with cancer. During his 19-year training career, he prepped 515 winners and the earners of more than $4.6 million from 3,673 starters, including champions Winalota Cash, Toast To Dash, and Kool Kue Baby.
As an owner, he had 44 winners and the earners of $817,927 from 304 starters, topped by multiple graded stakes winner Brindis Por Cayenne.
