PHOENIX, AZ—DECEMBER 7, 2017—Sunday’s nine-race card at Turf Paradise is headed by five Quarter Horse races, including three 400-yard stakes.

A full field of 10 2-year-olds has been entered back in Sunday’s $17,500-added AQRA Turf Paradise Open Futurity. Cowgirl N Up, a homebred daughter of Texas Icon owned by Ralph and Carolyn Fales, set the fastest qualifying time with her half-length victory in the first of two trials on November 19. The filly has earned $23,744 from seven races, and her three wins include a wire-to-wire, one-length win in the April 30, 350-yard John Deere Turf Paradise Juvenile Challenge Stakes.

Cowgirl N Up drew post 10 and will be ridden by J. Martin Bourdieu for trainer Matt Fales. The filly’s nine opponents include Skinny Kyni, a stakes-placed homebred Winners Version filly trained by Tyler Gibbs for owner A & C Racing and Roping. Skinny Kyni has banked $33,199 from eight outs this season, and her resume includes a second-place finish in the 350-yard, $104,000 Bitterroot Futurity at Sandy Downs in Idaho in June.

Skinny Kyni drew post 3 and will be ridden by Mark Jasso.

Also on Saturday, fastest qualifier Apollitical Boogie heads a field of 10 sophomores in the $15,000-added AQRA Turf Paradise Open Derby. Trained by Eloy Mendoza for owner Amado de la Riva, the homebred son of Apollitical Jess has won three of seven starts and has earned $20,172 this season, and he is coming off of a nose victory as the 7-10 favorite in the second of three trials on November 26.

Apollitical Boogie drew post 5 and will be ridden by Emilio Tapia.

Orlando Guerrero’s May Be Fantastic Sa heads a field of six aged sprinters entered in Sunday’s $18,000 Mike Hastings Memorial Stakes. A 4-year-old stallion by Fantastic Corona Jr trained by Ubaldo Guerrero, May Be Fantastic Sa has banked $29,980 from four races this year, and his season resume includes a second-place finish in the March 10, 400-yard West Texas Maturity (G3) at Sunland Park. Emilio Tapia will ride May Be Fantastic Sa from post 2.

Sixteen 2-year-olds have been entered in Sunday’s 350-yard Southwest Futurity trials. Angel Valenzuela’s Texas Tornadoe, a stakes-winning Texas Icon filly trained by Raul Valenzuela, is undefeated in three starts since being claimed for $6,250 at Los Alamitos on July 15. Texas Tornadoe drew post 4 and will be ridden by Andres Osuna in the first of two heats.
